New update just released will end the ability to use 3rd Party apps. Even if you previously used them. It won't even Load them. Gradually released to all fire tv devices. https://youtu.be/Nzho4BYs29s
Better off getting android streaming devices.
The 4k Max is also discounted, $29.99.

The inability to have a custom launcher and seeing Amazon ads on the home page was the reason I went to onn box.

For starters, not everyone has the latest & greatest TVs. For example, I have a Samsung TV that has most every app I'd need, except Xfinity Streaming & Xbox Cloud. Another reason might be wanting to have a cheap, portable solution - we take a Firestick on vacations. I'm sure there are plenty other reasons.

Same here. Ive been replacing aging firesticks with the ONN's. I do like the remote better on the firestick but I like the experience better on the ONN.
Which Onn 4k do you have? the regular or the pro? also I saw they just released a new plus version but that one says "only compatible in the US and Puerto Rico" thought all Android TV devices were compatible worldwide and content restrictions were dependent on the conditions set by the video apps themselves?

I have one tv that ran out of storage, 4gigs isn't enough for all the services I subscribe to 😂, and one tv can't play Dolby vision well and it won't let you turn it off so you have to use an external device. Dolby is too dark and unwatchable. I don't like the stick though, have one max stick and a cube. The cube is so much faster, for something I use all the time, not a good place to cheap out.

The guy in that video is a idiot and is causing panic. Amazon has not ended the ability to use third party apps. They have added a feature that Android boxes have had for a very long time called play protect. The only app that I can find proven not just reported to be disabled is Flixvision and in my opinion it it for good reason because that specific app is known to have malicious code. And modded versions of that app can be reinstalled. Stop fear-mongering.

Good price for a secondary TV, the cube is worth the cost.

TDUK is THE most respected guy in the game. calling him "this guy" and an "idiot" in itself shows you have no idea what you're talking about. Try again. Play protect is from Google play and is not a part of Amazon's system. Play protect can be turned off in Android based devices, and this feature CAN'T be turned off in Amazon devices. Saying this entire new feature and an entire system update by Amazon was created to stop ONE 3rd party app is illogical and downright laughable. In fact, Live Net TV has been reported as blocked after this new update as well. Amazon didn't do this to protect users; that is just a disguise and a response from the pressure they have been under from all the major apps like Netflix and the entire entertainment and sports industries, including the MPAA.

Clickbait BS!

There is no definitive evidence that Amazon has completely ended the ability to sideload third-party apps on Fire TV Stick devices as of June 2025.

I knew they were ditching Android but I figured it would only apply to newer hardware. Will the old one still be running Android.

I have been doing this since you were still swimming around in your daddy's nut sack. So much what you said was wrong I'm not even going to bother. Just watch and see this scare will pass.

Haha Pat yourself some more on the back. You're absolutely nobody. Meanwhile, TDUK is the most respected name in the game. Gee, I wonder who people should trust...

People think it's hot year 'round in Georgia, and it is, except when you up in the hills at the state park. It gets real dang cold at night. 🥶🥶🥶🥶

I decided to finally refresh all my old streaming devices so I purchased one for my bedroom TV a couple days ago after not having a Firestick since the gen2 and wow the advertisements have gotten CRAZY. I just want a large toolbar menu that's easy to navigate with 8-10 of my favorite apps. Instead you get a tiny bar of only 6 apps sandwiched between a huge scrolling banner above and a million suggested shows/apps below.

It's also noticeably slower than the Onn 4K Plus I have in my garage gym TV

I own many of the various streaming sticks. Amazon has objectively the worse ad ridden interface but apps and its features seem to work better than the others.
