Just a heads up, AMD will release 5500X3D ($150-$200). So, this will be another good upgrade for those low-budget gaming AM4-Ever CPU LOL. This 6-core CPU will run at 4 GHz, compared to the 5600X3D at 4.4 GHz.

From what I remember, the 5600X3D (6 cores, 4.40GHz) is about neck/neck on gaming when compared to the 5800X3D (8 cores,4.5 GHz) on gaming FPS. The 5700X3D (8 cores, 4.1GHz) is about 4% slower on gaming compared to the 5800X3D. So, the 5500X3D (6 cores, 4.0GHz) will be about the same as the 5700X3D FPS.

I think the AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT will still be better for productivity, not for gaming, because it is just an overclocked 5950X.

Great value. This beats the previous FP deal for this combo by $21. And it is only $33 more than the current FP deal for the CPU alone.

I spoke with a representative about price matching with the $229 listing on Amazon. Technically, Newegg only offers this for items marked as "price match guaranteed". However, I was able to secure it, although YMMV.

5900xt is an underclocked 5950x
boost 4.8ghz vs 4.9ghz
base 3.3ghz vs 3.4ghz
Not much but the order is important.
Edit: might as well round this out.

The 5950x is about 6.6% (7.8% see below) slower than 5800x3d and the 5900xt is about 2% slower than the 5950x.

They're all about the same.

Did you go through their price match form or spoke with a rep directly on the phone?

I directly talked with them via online chat before placing the order.

Not to be a stats Nazi, bit that's not 6.6 percent but percentage points. There is a difference. This is also specifically in gaming with a TOTL GPU. The difference narrows as the resolution goes up (and is probably smaller with less powerful GPUs).

In application performance the difference is more like 20% and 30% in favor of the 5900XT and 5950X respectively. That's a big difference.

Not to be a context ~z but the reply was to gaming performance.
My mistake. It's actually 7.8% slower not 6.6%. Sorry about that. It was lazy of me.
I guess you're not a stats ~z because you didn't provide the corrected exact number and you pulled 20% and 30% out of thin air. You do realize that the 5900XT only differs from the 5950X in boost and base by 100mhz. Hard to make 2-3% into a 10% difference respectively or was that just miss phrased ?

I got these numbers from the same article you linked (Page 27 [techpowerup.com]).

I didn't misphrase it, but, perhaps unintentionally, you are, again. That's about a 10 percentage point difference between the 5900XT and 5950X in respect to the 5800X3D. Among themselves, 5950X is 8.9% faster than 5900XT in application performance (according to the linked article).

I don't possess and have not tested any of the three CPUs. I don't have a skin in the game. I am just reading the charts in the article.

Uhh. 5900x is different than the 5900xt. The former is a 12 core processor, the latter is a lower binned 5950x 16 core processor.
I have a 5800x3d and a 5950x.
5950x advantage is higher quality silicon. So it boosts better so you may get a bit more than the 2-3% especially if you have good cooling.

I talked with the representative and placed the order for $279. She put some notes in the system. In a few days, after shipping, I talked with another person to confirm the promised price match, then $50 refund was issued to my credit card.
I agree with you that AM5 setup is probably a better investment, unless you have some old AM4 motherboard and need more cores.

Yes, it really depends on who you are talking with. That's why I didn't go with the price match form. They have valid reason to reject the request.
