I believe there is a 2% cash back extrabucks rewards thing that is 90 days, but that's a separate rewards system based on total spend.

Crest Pro-Health Advanced Gum Restore is their top of the line that actually uses a researched ingredient glycine that's supposed to stabilize stannous fluoride so that it's more stable when it reaches the gumline and can supposedly kill bacteria below the gumline due to the stabilization.
Colgate Total Plaque Pro Release likewise has arginine which is supposed to be metabolized in some way that raises the pH to loosen plaque. They also have a combination calcium carbonate + arginine formulation they call Pro-Argin that isn't available in the US but it forms aids remineralization to form a physical barrier over dentin tubules to further reduce hypersensitivity.
Unfortunately the toothpaste companies are really shady about what exactly is in their formulation that makes them different from each other. Most of the Crest Pro-Health Gum line is considered shelf filler that's indistinguishable from each other and inferior to Advanced Gum Restore although anecdotally I used Gum Detoxify for a year and my dentist said that my gum measurements (3-4) actually improved to mostly 2's then I leveled down to "regular" Pro-Health line and had more 3s and 4s the next visit.
I haven't been able to try Advanced Gum Restore because it doesn't seem like there have been any new batches in 2025 but that toothpaste makes the most bold and specific claims about gum recession and restoration and glycine actually has some research (funded by Crest) coming out of Loma Linda University demonstrating superior gum restoration compared to plain stannous fluoride toothpaste.
Generic Colgate Total (they seem to be rebranding with Active Prevention in the name) with the modern stannous fluoride formula is pretty much equivalent to generic Crest Pro-Health though it's always much cheaper and I'd go with Colgate Total. Colgate Total does include Potassium Nitrate (i.e. Sensodyne) for sensitivity relief whereas Crest Pro-Health relies purely on stannous fluoride.
Crest Pro-Health Gum (Detoxify, Restore, Recession, Enamel Repair and, Sensitive and) might be better than generic Crest Pro-Health as it does make the following claims that they can probably point to studies in case of a lawsuit:
- Neutralizes plaque bacteria, even around the gumline, for 24 hours*
- Clinically proven to fortify gums to protect teeth**
Crest Pro-Health Advanced Gum Restore and Colgate Total Plaque Pro-Release are the current top of the line with glycine and arginine respectively which both have at least some research about.Leave a Comment
