You could do a heck of a lot worse for a basic monitor. If you're just looking for something for casual use - an HDMI cable from your off-the-shelf HP/Dell/Lenovo's integrated video port to this - it's a good deal.

Good deal, I'm stuck between this and the Acer monitor

Some people claim 100hz is minimum for a good time. I don't seem to care as most my monitors are 60hz. The one I have that's higher I cant tell the difference.

It's worth the extra $20. More connectivity, smoother play assuming you can hit 165fps.

120 vs 165 is noticeable especially in fast paced FPS.

After 165 I can't really tell. My old man eyes can't process things fast enough then.

144hz is the minimum today.

Play CS with a 60hz for a week. Then switch to 144. You're instantly better and markedly better awp

I owned an Acer 1080p monitor. It died. Got an Asus 1080p and it is at least 10 yrs old.
These are 2nd monitors, connected to an HDMI switch with 4 different inputs and 2 outputs, including a Roku. Sometimes having a movie stream while I work is nice. Need a monitor with speakers and that don't force the EDID HDMI info to say "2ch". Really, I don't want a new monitor, just need to convince the streaming device to send 5.1 audio (DTS/DD+) would be fine.

Playing a 20 year old FPS competitively is a very specific use case. How many other games can a budget gamer really expect to be able to push to 144fps, and benefit from it?

I suppose it's "minimum" for serious gamers. Sure I play WC3, Red Alert, REPO and even the occasional CS vs bots but I dont think your rule applies to me.

10 bux more at Costco online, includes shipping. IMHO the warranty there would be worth the extra bux.

Edit: My bad the VA259HGA is at Costco, not the VA249HGA in this thread....

My apologies I think when I say CS it's obvious I'm referring to CS2 as I would be surprised anyone is playing the original CS. You are a very smart person you should have yourself a cookie or other treat. You deserve it as you proved your intellectual prowess on slick deals today

But my comment stands for any FPS.

I built a $300 budget 1080p PC around a Ryzen 5500 and used 1080 GTX. It pushes 144 frames in CS2 and fortnite.

Ha, I forgot that game was even released, you see I shower daily and even go outside a few times a week.

Anyone that cares that much about an FPS will know what refresh rate is a dealbreaker for them and move on when they don't see the spec they want. Nobody else in the $89-monitor-buying public will or should care.
