Looking at the newest reviews on Best buy from just this month it seems like it for some people. I'm not sure why it's some and not others. Some say newest firmware fixed it some say newest didn't help

Frequently returned, also not sure who made the decision to only put one 10G port WAN/LAN, what a waste. If this drops to around $150 though I would pull the trigger.

I've been looking between this router and the BE-86U to be my next main router. This one has WiFi 7 but some reported firmware issues that I hope to skip with Merlin. The 86U has a better processor but some kind of halfway WiFi 7. I guess the NordVPN deal is better than nothing but I haven't heard really anything positive about them except for price and server locations.

If you're ok with tplink this is a pretty similar specced router at costco for $150: https://www.costco.com/archer-be9...42316.html
It does have 1 less 2.4ghz stream which doesn't really matter, and 2 less 2.5gb network ports.

Don't chase technology, the 86u is tried and true.

True true. I have a few Asus XT8s that I'm looking to place in access point mode anyway and one of these newer routers would take over routing and add VLAN capacity. I just mainly need the nice processor more than a new wifi standard that only one of my devices has.

They do it's just expensive. If you want 4 streams on both 5ghz and 6ghz then you are paying for more hardware. The be92u is the trade off to get a triband router they shift 2 streams from the 5ghz to 6ghz.

BE96U? for double the price and not even 2.5gbe ports is ridiculous

I just bought one from Best Buy when on sale a few weeks ago. I'm taking it back. I did the flash to new firmware and do a hard reset and then setup method. It's still dropping and crashing about once every ohhh three to five days. Asus firmware… Merlin firmware… doesn't matter, still not stable.

Funny I bought it from Bestbuy yesterday. I would say the signal is not as strong. I moved to BE88U and testing that now. It's dual band but has better antenna and range. I have not decided whether I am going to keep it but let's see how that goes.

They have a few different options, even with 2.5gb ports. Do you expect them to add 6ghz for free? This has a ton of 2.5 ports if you need them, just released so will probably be cheaper on sale: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus...Id=6618204
