While I agree with the sentiment and am quite skeptical of these drives, I'm not sure how many good alternatives there are. The Samsung 870 EVO is leagues better but costs substantially more. The Crucial BX500 is absolute garbage and I'd recommend avoiding it like the plague. The Team Group QX has reviews scary enough that they should only be allowed out on Halloween, and the Vulcan Z tends to have its own problems. Unfortunately, it's becoming very difficult to find decent SATA SSDs.

Amazon has no say on the warranty terms. That's up to the manufacturer.

I think that's highly likely.

Wayy overpriced these are sub $90 in shenzhen china. Also lots of forum complaints about orico drives failing after a few months. Probably spend a couple extra bucks and go with more reliable brands like Teamgroup, Crucial, Samsung etc and let me guess you have to ship back to china on your own dime if anything goes wrong.

If it dies within the Amazon return period, no. You just say "it died, gimme my prime return" and take it to the UPS Store.
If it dies AFTER that, then yeah. You're dealing with Orico's warranty/return program, which speaking from experience… oof.

SATA drive at NVME price?? This junk should be at $90 like the rest of Chinese ssd sata drive.
Who would buy SATA drive nowadays where most MB have NVME port?
Things that don't exist, because as sata becomes niche the price stops falling. They are supply constrained with the same nand chips as any other cheap drive so yes, its the same and no you aren't going to be able to buy 4TB for $90 unless there is a fake thumbstick inside.

Such BS, they cut corners on naming it in firmware, so what, its a text entry. They do this with their nvme as well, but all the other entries like power on and hours still show up correctly for SMART data.

Second tier stuff cuts corners this way, team group sata CX sometimes omits temperature entirely.

Lexar ns100 is missing % in its write life

Orico j-10 nvme series is named correctly.

Orico J-20 nvme is not, but so what.

Do a full write to test the drive before using it for burn in.

Guy either got a fake or was unlucky. There's no magic here, all these second tier drives are thrown together from commodity parts.

Maybe some people don't know how slow SATA are vs NVME? but yeah, I'd go with a cheap NVME over this.

How much are decent 8tb drives in shenzhen? I'm just waiting for 8TB SSDs to come down to under 30/tb before swapping all the spinning rust in my home NAS (after which point it no longer needs to live in a separate corner of the house because of all the heat & noise)

.....and they increased the price. 2023 was a great time to stock up on storage. not sure if it will ever go that low again
Yup. I got a 2TB Intel 670p for $70. Bought two of them, and now wish I had a third for that price. Yes, it's older PCIe 3, but works great for my needs.

We do, but in practice for general use, you're not really going to notice it. The big speed bump is going from mechanical HDD to SSD. That's like a magnitude different on the slow lane. Once you get in the fast line, making it a magnitude different, most aren't really going to notice.

I also assume, people that buy this type of drive are looking for semi-fast, but puts emphasis on larger storage amount and low price.

Do you need fast access to all that data at all time?

Not saying you don't, or that it's wrong. Many don't and many just use it for archiving photos or videos. Which is probably fine on waiting for a mechanical drive to spin up.

I'm starting to suspect that Orico has employees or paid reviewers flooding the reviews and deal sites; it's just nonstop spam. Their products are honestly just cheap garbage.
I find it suspicious that the majority of the reviews seem to be for the 128GB model.

First, both SATA & NVME drives use the same flash memory, it's the interface between the memory and computer which makes things go faster for NVME, and unfortunately the memory is the big cost item.

Second SATA drives do have their place, they're useful in the NAS market, lower power, lower temperature, lower noise, and much faster access of information even with a SATA interface.

Lastly, SATA doesn't take up precious PCIe lanes, now for most people this isn't a problem at all. But depending on the CPU you will often have either 20 or 24 lanes (I think Intel's latest has 20 and Ryzen cpus have 24, or vice versa). So that graphics card you use, that's taking up 16 of those lanes by itself, your m.2 SSD, that's taking up 4 as well. And if that's all you have, you're golden, but if you want more m.2 drives they're not going to be as fast usually and that's because they share lanes, I think my MB has 4 spots for m.2s but only the first m.2 can run at maximum speed, others either disable PCIe slots I have (which for me isn't a problem) or they share the total lanes, so you get half speed (or -1 gen speed)
