If you cannot activate it without the latest firmware. Dont buy it. Im lucky enough to have gotten my p1s with the old firmware. The old FW allows LAN mode. If you update, you printer will be locked into cloud mode. Aka all your prints and files must go through BL cloud servers. Not only is that a data security hazard, if their servers are down, your printer becomes a paperweight. I bought the hardware, I own the hardware, dont put software on there to take what I had paid away.Synology is doing the same thing. I left them too for UNRAID.

Read up on the current bambu labs firmware. YT users are pointing it out too. They tried doing some John Deere crap on customers.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, don't let posts like this scare you away from what is genuinely one of the best printers on the market, especially at this price point.
Yes, the new firmware does introduce tighter integration with Bambu Lab's cloud services, and for users working with proprietary designs or running commercial print farms, that could raise valid concerns. But for the average hobbyist or even consumer, the impact is practically nonexistent.
Most people just want a printer that works reliably out of the box, and the P1S (even with the latest firmware) delivers that in spades. It's fast, high quality, and incredibly easy to use. The privacy concerns are mostly theoretical for the typical user, and unless you're running air-gapped systems for a reason, you're likely already trusting plenty of devices with similar connectivity.
For most, it's a non-issue.

I bought this P1S combo from Best Buy for $830 in March, and it's been fantastic. It's my first 3D printer and I've been printing every day with it (mostly organizational stuff for drawers and toolboxes, but also some fun stuff here and there). I might buy a second one during the sale to finish projects faster since these are guaranteed to go up in price due the 55% tariffs that Trump says that is going to place on imports from China as part of his trade deal with China. I have been purchasing most of my filament directly from Bambu, and they have shipped from Californian and New Jersey. Bambu has this same deal from their website starting today with $35 shipping. All their other printers and bundles will also be on sale. I highly recommend this printer to anyone else just beginning to 3D print. If you're going to be printing items from your own propriety designs, then I could understand why you might be concerned about using the cloud, but you can print directly over LAN or with a USB flash drive. For someone like me that is printing what other people are freely sharing online, that's just not an issue.
Nothing Trump says is guaranteed..

You can use developer mode, or flash the previous firmware. This is really a non issue and most beginners arent going to use third party integrations anyways.

I also pulled the trigger and bought from Best Buy. They have 15% back in rewards, or you can opt for 0% for 12 months, which I did since I don't recall the last time I bought something from Best Buy 😅.
No tax would've been awesome, but at least it was a couple of bucks cheaper having shipped to my home from Best Buy. Looks like my county's tax rate is a tiny bit lower than the county where my Micro Center store is located 🤣

You can't use other slicers? I thought you're able to use whatever slicer you want to use but have to send the gcode via "the cloud" if you want to get it to the printer that way. Also, can't you use a flash drive instead?
For the moment you can still print from SD yes.
You can print from other slicers in LAN mode, but you have to enable developer mode and that makes your device unsupported so Bambu can wash their hands of it.

Thanks for the reply. I have a Prusa 3D printer but always use an SD card to print. I've been looking at getting this printer and if I can do the same process of flash/SD card, that works for me.

So can anyone give me a clear answer on do I need a filament dryer? It seems like it isn't needed but helps?
depends on where you are located. If you are in AZ, probably no, if you are in WA definitely yes

AM2 which is what everyone wants is only available directly buying from bambu. Spend the extra $100 for the ams2. https://us.store.bambulab.com/products/p1s
Its extra $135 (or ~$145) [$100 price difference + $35 shipping + (~$10 additional sales tax)]. Curious if you consider it still worth it? If I understand, its the built in heater and easy access to the PTFE tubes is the main advantage?

Just picked up my P1S from best buy. Ordered when I woke up this morning. I have been wanting to get the Centurian Carbon for the price and functionality, but wanted to wait a bit. I cut my teeth and more on the ender 3 s1, sold it for the m5c and then returned it... My friend bought the a1 mini and uses it at the office. That thing just works... I had nothing but trouble with then ender. The m5c worked, but never was better than the a1... Bambu with its APPLE business model is not what I would really want to buy into... but all the other issues just lead me down to paying more and having limited control worth it if it just works. I will miss using octoprint and other fun... but I just want things to work. Hopefully I can still use cheap filiment in the future... But shoot, if it works better, I might go there as well. That is where I am.

I have been thinking to buy this thing for a while which is why it was so easy to pull the trigger. I work in IT and do so much more outdoors these days... and Learning to be a better pilot. I do not have time to tinker with 3d printers. It is not fun... I must be getting old... 39. I do not want to play with custom firmwares and other crap like that. Bricking the system and taking time fix.... I am just past that. Only reason I did not get the x1 is because I am sure these models will go down price even more. I have a 60 month return window and will use this thing until something comes along.

I want to try the elegoo printer but i heard it is louder and prints pretty good, but not better than this. They are already shipping units with different parts so I really do not want to be a beta tester. This printer is tried and true, ams was not required, but now that I have it is going to be good for the fact I do not have to swap colors out more than multicolor printing. You cannot miss what you can't measure... I do not care for the AMS2. This one works just fine and my environment is farily controlled. I have a filiment dryer that I used to run prints out of. I can do the same with this printer from the back and not use the ams. If best buy had the am2, yeah, i would have got it.. But I also had a lot of rewards and it was same day pickup.

Anywho, appreciate all the comments on the threads as usual. Over all these years, I have learned so much from these boards... buying and using crap I did not know I needed.

If I had to buy more printers now, I would go with the Prusa CORE One. Its very similar to performance with a solid repair parts program, and none of that cloud stuff to worry about.

So did the new firmware bricked/or not work with the panda touchscreen? I thought it still worked.
New FW locks the printer from any "unauthorized" stuff. Panda Touch is technically unauthorized and will cease to function.

No wonder i can't login my synology. I'm filing a report to ftc.
I think old arrays are not affected. But I migrated to unraid because who knows, they might hit a button and make my entire array obsolete until I use Synology-branded drives.
