I was looking at a bigger Mikrotik router for a similar purpose (10GB SFP/2.5GB copper) and this is cheap enough that even if it sucks balls it should work as a media converter. When I get a few bandwidth tests done I'll post on the Amazon page.

I've been considering upgrading my network to 2.5gbps, and this would be awesome to have the 10G backplane. For S&Gs I added two to my cart and the coupon did apply to both. Consider me shocked. I have to figure out the SFP parts and costs first.
"Coupon Expiry Date July 24, 2025" if you're also on the fence.
There's also a $10 off coupon on the $59.99 8 port version with only one 10G port.

Pulled the trigger on two of the 4-ports and one of the 9-ports. Then I remembered I had a 40% off Amazon business account promo. Ended up using my business account and got four of the 9-port units for ~$140 after $10 coupon and 40% off.

Highly YMMV as I'm guessing many people don't have Amazon biz accounts or got that flyer/promo... but figured it might be a light bulb moment for someone else as well.

Going to replace the four 8-port gig switches. I use them in conjunction with 2.5GB (max) throughput MoCA adapters. My NAS two floors down has 2.5GB connectivity.... so when we push/pull to that, I'm hoping we can take advantage of the 2.5GB.

If I recall correctly, since it's all INTRANET traffic, it shouldn't be bottlenecked by my router... and I'm HOPING my ethernet jacks where I have hardwire running from my basement to main level through the wall isn't using basic gig keystones. If it is, I'm guessing I'll be bottlenecked by those.

You would be correct, the gig keystones will end up being the bottleneck. Also passively a 2.5 to 2.5 connection on a NAS actually increases performance of the NAS read/write speeds, surprisingly the platters are not the limiting factor but the gig port on a NAS. Also as you mentioned your in network performance will drastically increase since it by passes the router.

Which -- it just hit me -- I'd run into a 2.5G bottleneck once I hit our livingroom anyway. Anything downstream of that on the upper floors is connected via MoCA. I don't do a lot of heavy PC lifting on my NAS -- mostly just movie viewing via Plex on my Shield TVs. 1G seems to work fine, but having a bit of additional headroom for that couldn't hurt. Rough sketch of my network attached. Essentially, the cable internet signal (gig down / 40 meg upload) hits my house in the basement. Modem hits the router which passes it an 8-port switch. One of the outputs of the switch goes to my NAS (and my Shield TV); another output goes to an ethernet wall switch with an ethernet cable buried in the wall / ceiling which then exits out of the wall one floor up in our livingroom. To get it to the next level up / upstairs, I went the 2.5G MoCA route. One at the origination point in the livingroom; one in my upstairs bedroom and one in my "home office" where I do most of my PC use. We do have Sheild TVs in the bedroom, livingroom, and office (in addition to the basement). So our weakest link is upstairs, but the MoCA does a yeoman's job and I get 800+ down in my office (I think my cable modem caps out around 900 meg -- hardware limitation). So I'm pretty much saturating my INTERNET connection. But since my MoCA adapters are capped at 2.5G, even if I feed 10G at the source (basement), I'm not going to be able to enjoy it all the way downstream due to the MoCA limitations.

I'm experiencing speed limitations with my MoCA setup. My home network uses 2.5G MoCA adapters connected to 2.5G switches, and both my NAS and PC have 2.5G network adapters. However, when transferring large files (~40GB), I'm not achieving 2.5Gbps speeds in either direction. Has anyone encountered similar issues or have suggestions to optimize performance? Thanks.

Are you able to get the Nas close to the pc to exclude those adapters? Just to rule that out

Not to give you false hope but depending on how long the cable runs are behind them your keystones should be fine, it's not standard, but people are seeing 10Gb on 5E runs under 100ft in the wild with decent cables, 2.5 should be achievable even on base cat 5 of decent quality. (But it's also easy AF to swap out keystones, especially compared to swapping out the backplane wire 😜) good luck!
