They certainly not planning to go out of business and have to make money to refund the recalled units.
I have two units that I've been using summers for 2 years and no mold issues. I install them tiled back more than instructed and I think they may help with the mold issue. Just FYI

It's been fixed. Just make sure it is tilted appropriately and there's that new hole in the bottom of it.
If it is one of the impacted models you can elect for a repair or a refund (12K unit is 480 dollars).
If you want to repair it yourself, watch a YouTube video on where to drill a drain hole then use rustoleum spray paint to prevent corrosion in the area you drilled.
I have two units, always tilted, plenty of rain, no mold. Just be sure to check it occasionally (like any window AC) for residual water after a storm. You can do this by just popping the front cover, you need to do that when cleaning the filter as well.
If you live somewhere that's always humid though, you may want to do additional research into a model that better fits your climate to be safe.

One downside of the Midea is that blinds do not cover the side window gaps. Not an issue with the GE or the Hisense. Something to consider.

My 12K units were impacted 1 and 2 years old. I can't speak to Home Depot's specific model, I know some are coming with the fix. I submitted for the fix on mine, and keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn't get water stuck in it though.

This model seems to be a Home Depot exclusive because on Midea's site, the only place it shows on "where to buy" is Home Depot.

Per my earlier note, I think I'd rather have a newly-resolved one post-recall as opposed to one that 'wasn't affected....but probably still is affected.' Also, Costco might be a better place to purchase once they release the new models given the return policy....if Costco decides to go through the headache of stocking them again given the issues.
The problem is literally just water pooling. Their solution was to drill a drain hole, or cut the cable and get a refund.
Realistically, this was a non-issue for the one summer I used it for.
Midea had me cut the power cord to the unit in order to get a $453 check sent to me for the recall.
All in all, Midea and Amazon handled everything perfectly. I would definitely buy this again, once I get my check.
