What do you mean barely work? Like you had it to use another bracket or something?
I've explained this in another comment. But in summary: the curvature of the post wraps under the bottom of the speaker and there is minimal to no clearance between the bottom rear edge of the speaker and the curve of the post.

I wouldn't trust my 7lb 990d rears on a speaker stand that only claims to support 5 lbs but I'm sure they would work.
Does anyone have other opinions?
Update: oh yeah I have the Q990D.
It works well with Q990D rear speakers. Stand came with the correct screw size, 1/4"-20 UNC. I didn't need to use foam as the other poster mentioned to dampen vibration. I did have to screw extra tight so that the speakers didn't spin around. As another reviewer mentioned, the max height is like 3-4ft or so which is shorter than my prior stands.
The tube opening to accomodate a passthrough wire wasn't useful as the only wire for the Q990D is the power cable which the head connector can't fit through. I used velcro on one stand. Not a really neat solution but I don't care as my placement is behind my couch and out of the way.
Given the big savings, I give the stands a thumbs up for Q990D system.
FYI, I've been going through a bunch of YouTube 11.1.4, 5.1.4, 7.1.4 demos to showcase the sound system potential. It lives up to the hype.
Can you explain what you mean by "just barely make them work" ? Just got the 990D and hoping to use these for the rears
