F.E.A.R 1 and its expansions are borderline abandonware, they will require compatibility fixes such as disabling HID Devices in Device Manager and running in XP compatibility mode.

F.E.A.R. 2 is, in my personal opinion, the best game in this collection. Even though it's old, it looks great even on aging hardware, has excellent level design, and few to no hardware compatibility issues on modern machines. Multiplayer is no longer functional, but still worth it just for the campaign.

F.E.A.R. 3 is… mid. The co-op can be a lot of fun but you have to have a friend on hand to play, one of you has to have completed the game, you'll be playing as two totally different classes, and there's no Steam cloud support so you'll need to manually backup your save or lose your progress.

The expansions under Fear 3, are for the first game. But slam dunk deal if you have not played these.

2 good games and Fear 3. Definitely worth it for $5.50.

Can you still play online coop in 2025 specifically for 3 out of the box without needing to mod or any of that.

I played the first game a bit (1 level) on the steam deck without messing with much, the biggest issue is learning the controls (prompts are for mouse and keyboard). Biggest issue for me is figuring out how to use lean controls, the default controller layout seems to show them linked to gyro, but I have no idea how to actually use lean with out mapping q/e to other buttons (comments on steam suggest to remap r4/l4)

The only one I am missing is the reborn dlc, reviews say it's short, what did you think of it?

Love this game series. #1 was my favorite. Totally worth the $5.50. I'm not sure why the abandonware comment. I play with an XBOX controller and just use the Enable steam input in the steam settings. Then I selected one of the preset controllers from the selection. A tiny bit of tweaking and I was playing. I might have had to mess a little with the resolution (I have an ultra wide display). Yup. Just started up the first game.. ran with no issues.

I played through all 3 on the Steam Deck, no issues at all. I didn't bother with lean like RepFree83 was alluding to, I for one have never really "leaned" too much into that mechanic in any FPS game (but I also don't play on super high difficulties so normally can just run and gun)
First two games have a lot of bindings for inventory, grenades, etc so use a control scheme (community config or your own) with a touch menu to get rid of much of those bindings.

I am working my way through FEAR 2 and will then play the DLC. So I cannot comment as of yet.

I had played all of the main FEAR games back when they came out, but am playing the DLCs for the first time. I'm still on the main FEAR 2 campaign, so I have not yet played that DLC. Hopefully, it's at least on par with the main game which is good, but is a bit more "console-ized" with the checkpoints and no hard saves.

I had no problem whatsoever playing F.E.A.R. and both expansions on Steam Deck. However, I'd advise anyone to play them docked, with a keyboard and mouse. The "tactical lean" is much better on mouse and keyboard. The default control configuration on Steam Deck is very odd, but maybe here are community controller profiles I didn't come across. Only real hiccup across the game and expansions is that one of the expansions is NOT 16:9, and there is no resolution you can select that is. I can't remember specifically which one, but I believe it was "Extraction Point". Doesn't ruin the game, but it's really weird that doesn't at least match the options of the base game (or the other expansion, if I don't have it backwards).
