Pennington Classic is so inconsistent. I go through two of those bags a month.

This is their generic brand, right? I tried that and it was loaded with dirt, dust, ash, whatever. I had the shake out the bird feeder after each use to get it out. :-(

Here in San Diego, the birds wouldn't touch the cheap Walmart stuff. I returned it. The birds were ravenous over the Kaytee Western blend, but $15 a bag was too much for me when then were going through a feeder-full every couple of days. Finally, I happened upon Birder's Medley Wild Bird Food from Sam's Club ($18 for 20lbs, shipping only). Pretty close to the Kaytee Western in seed blend and the birds like it. So instead of $45 for 21 lbs, I'm paying $18 for 20 lbs. Much more affordable.
(I'd link to the Sam's Club stuff but the lame new "Redesign view" on Slickdeals doesn't offer the tools to embed links when creating a post)

Which walmart one are you talking about?

If its the white bag stuff then yea I agree. The seeds are to large.

But the $18 one is the Pennington Classic. Its a good mix and the birds eat a lot of it everyday for me. The white bag not so much. Well the Squirrels liked it. Frown

This is the one I bought that was a failure:

Our backyard birds tend to not eat as much of the millet (I think -- the very small seed) and like the sunflower seeds and black sunflower so the Medley from Sam's is a ton of sunflower seed (as was the Kaytee Western Blend).

I agree, that stuff is junk for most.

Birds would mostly push it out to get to what little was ok in it.

Exactly. On the bright side, I had quite a "garden" sprout up from the dropped seeds, including lots of sunflowers! Smilie
