Spectacular headphones even at their original price. You get true planar magnetic sound with impressive detail, wide soundstage and clean instrument separation.

If you're looking to step into audiophile gear w/o overspending, this is one of the best deals out there. I'd highly recommend to get an amp to drive it though.

I've been driving it with Topping L30 & E30 amp/dac combo for the last few years, and I see no reason to upgrade my setup in the near future.

How does it compare to HD6xx?

In short, 6XX is comfy, budget-friendly all-rounder, with warm midrange, smooth treble and gentle mid-bass bump, and XS is bold, analytical listener's dream with airy soundstage and a side of damn good bass slam. For overall sound quality I definitely prefer XS, but it's much heavier and bulkier (14oz vs 9oz, I believe), so for daily driving 6XX works better.

The 6XX is far more comfortable, but the Edition XS has much more detailed sound. I'd recommend the Arya Stealth refurb if you can swing it, but the Edition is very very good.

I used the 6xx as my daily driver for 7+ years. Then I got these and my 6xx hasn't been touched since. This has to be the best sound you can get for the price, with an amp of course. I agree with what everyone is saying about comfort though, these things are bulky and the lack of a head strap is a disappointing misfire.

There are other mods to this headphone such as the Capra Audio. Never tested it though

A $20 Capra Comfort strap should be mentioned in every Edition XS post. It transforms the comfort from meh to fantastic. More comfortable than even the HD6XX/HD600 after you add the strap, since it has considerably less clamping force.

I disagree that the HD6xx is more confortable. I can wear my XS all day long without any problems. It blows the HD6xx out of the water in every aspect, sincerely. I would recommend modding the XS with a headband, I bought mine from custom cans uk for 20 pounds + some international fee. Totally worth it

Do the earcups on these rotate/swivel? Doesn't look like it based on the pics. That's the only reason I haven't bought these.

great headphones. I have no issues with the build or comfort. It looks nice, feels decent, and best of all, sounds fantastic with amp/dac.

I own these and the Capra Strap. If you're in the market for a decent set of cans, that do need an amp, buy these. You will not be disappointed with the sound, they're amazing.

I have a HD 6XX from the very first batch and moved to these. The planar detail is just crazy, and add a little eq (I use oratory1990's profile) and these are my endgame even after going to a few headphone meets and trying some of the more expensive ones. This price is great, and the only things you really give up are the HD 6XX mids and a bit of a dice roll on the qc. Mine's been solid for like 2 years now though, beside a new cable.
I've owned shp9500, k553, dt770, t50rp mk3, hd 6xx, wh1000xm2, and the m1060c.

i bought these refurbed about 2 years ago and… i think they are a bit meh. Maybe i just got a worse set somehow since they were refurbs. Sound quality i think they are a bit boring and the comfort isnt great. Also, the build quality is something i notice all the time, it feels so cheap. I have sub-100 dollar headphones with better build. I still use them for gaming, but I prefer other things for music.

Great headphones. Open-box ones looks brand new.
Paired mine with a Fiio Q15 after trying BTR17. If you get these cans, gotta make sure you can drive them right.
