I researched this before; CFM is as important as PSI. Here from a search:

"For winterizing a sprinkler system, a minimum of 20 CFM at 50 PSI is generally recommended"

This model seems to have only 1CFM at 90PSI

The volume required for that is more than a pancake compressor could supply. You're going to need a very large compressor.

I used a 2 gallon air compressor to do this for a while. The pump will never keep up, to that's irrelevant. I would open the valve, and empty the air tank into the sprinker, then close it. I would then change the active sprinkler zone while the compressor was filling back up. I ended up doing each zone about 2 times to really clear them out, and a third time to make sure it's really empty.
I'm currently using a 5 or 6 gallon air compressor. It can usually do each zone in one shot, but I go through a second round with each zone just to make sure.

Two questions:

How well does this work without Flexvolt batteries? Just regular DeWalt 5/6 AH batteries.

Is there a place to plug it into an outlet or is it battery only?

Battery only, I can't answer specific questions as I have the 60V version (basically the same but only works with 60V). I have a 9ah and it works fine for at least several full tanks (I have a larger compressor I use if the job is bigger than that). One difference with this one is that it's supposed to have different pressures of your using 20V or 60V (flexvolt) batteries...

Not unless you're painting something VERY small. These are really meant for nail guns.

Do you have any idea how big a 20cfm compressor is?

20cfm at 50ps is the same as 10cfm at 100psi. but it is still a beefy compressor, but larger ones could do that to drive grinders, air saws, and air files continuously

The best feature here is that it's cordless. So if you need portable air well away from a traditional power source it's going to be a lifesaver.
I have a Harbor Freight AC compressor and a powerful inverter for suck needs, but of course that requires a 12 volt power source.
This would do the work of those two in one neat package, and I already have 6 batteries.
It's very tempting.
