Mods- Please leave in HD as this resource is excellent given it includes rebate check funds never cashed by consumers that are now w/state treasuries.

EVEN IF YOU'VE LIVED IN MULTIPLE STATES, YOU CAN USE THIS TO FIND FUNDS IF YOU LIVED IN STATE X 7 years ago and now live elsewhere by state specific searches.

Best to use the state search, IMHO.

Searching my name in California shows 998 results. 99% of the names it shows are nowhere near close to my name.

You have to share your SSN with this unknown entity and who knows what they do with our data.

No you don't. you may only have to share it on the STATE run treasury website if you claim your funds. and they already have it, if you pay state income tax, or file any kind of tax docs with them.

at which URL? I was redirected to the claim form at my state's treasury who is holding the funds. This website in the OP doesn't have access or ability to pay out any unclaimed money.

My name showed in a state. The form requested an SSN. I am more than sure the claim is for monies never attached to an SSN. I filled out the form without an SSN and saw a disclaimer that it would be harder for everyone concerned if I did not provide an SSN (my summation of the disclaimer). I am good with that. We'll see.

Thanks OP. This was unexpected. And is probably less than $15. But bucks are bucks.

SSN Was a mandatory field as a PP showed in screenshot above. How were you able to submit form without it? I seem to have $30 or so but not sure I want to give my SSN.

I didn't submit exactly. The state I'm filing with allows for a PDF form that can be printed and submitted by snail mail. That's what I'm going with. I think my claim is more than the postage. But maybe not much more. We'll see.

Thank you!
P.S. In addition to their privacy policy, which I linked to, It's too late because of THIS. Frown

I don't give my SSN out for trivial things. These forms for submitting claims are sent to the specific state in question.

This site only sends the data to the state for claims. They do not keep it in their logs, and it is encrypted.

They may or may not be linked to each unclaimed item.
Can those here who are paranoid take a moment and imagine the chaos if they did not bother to identify you specifically and gave someone else your cash just for asking for it, because there was no such requirement?
Be glad, not worried.

I wonder if the states (while following up on claims) require answering credit bureau-related or other identifying questions as a secondary precaution.
Because, again, your SSN is already floating around on the dark web on lists.

We've had a Consumer Awareness forum for years now. This is the ideal place for this. Anyone on SD will benefit from subscribing to it. I agree it is a very nice consumer awareness alert, but it is what it is.

This is the ideal place for this? Based on what criteria? the reality, only a small % of HD surfers ever come into this forum, myself included. I approach things from the greatest # of community members who can benefit especially given the rebates aspect to this.

That's not to say Consumer Awareness isn't a valuable forum, but given this website lists unclaimed rebate funds which are often a key component of HD deals I'm sure that far more people would benefit in the community from an HD placement.

Having been active in HD posts/deals for 20 years, I can't tell you the number of 'bitch' posts on rebate deals where people say they never got their rebate. Some things are simply gray areas. People post grocery deals that are particularly hot at B&M locations that don't get moved to the grocery forum. Or the many credit card deals that don't get moved to Finance. The rules are enforced willy-nilly sometimes.
