I'd guess that staff posts now represent more than half of the content on this site, it's just a commission farm at this point.

I'm aware of that fact and have no problem with SD making money. My gripe is that they seem to have adopted a policy of maximizing profit via deception. It used to be that users would post deals and users would vote on the quality of said deals. Now, the majority of deals started, and I suspect also the majority of votes on this site, come from staffers - and I question their objectivity. There are too many thumbs on the scale IMO.

Indeed, don't think you're too far from the Gospel.

My Dollar Tree has Snyder's pretzels at $1.25 for a 10 ounce bag. Not $1 per pound, but better than grocery store prices.

These Dot's pretzels are insanely overpriced IMO, I tried them when I found them at Ollie's...they're good, but not good enough to justify these prices.

It's true the best deals are often posted by members, while staff post what they can find each day, which might not be that exciting if you don't like pretzels. But fake votes would not be a great business strategy since legit deals will get the most purchases, especially since SDers are savvy shoppers. While there might be some issues like ads or the balance of quantity vs. quality, Slickdeals really does selfishly want the same thing shoppers want: the best deals.

I'm not talking at all about the quality of the deals, or the associated excitement.

I'm talking about posting a deal with a wildly inflated MSRP to make the current price look like a better discount that it is. I'm talking about the constant promotion of productions by seemingly preferred vendors (Yitahome, Costway, etc.) - I suspect a vendor becomes preferred by writing a check to SD. You've got SD staff posting 10 deal threads in 5 minutes, which gives the appearance that they're working from and clearing a queue of deals pre-approved to be posted.

I agree, fake votes are a terrible business strategy, and you've done nothing to convince me that it's not taking place, I believe it's rampant. In doing so, you're preying on the SD shoppers who are not savvy, and if you read the comments in any given thread, I think you'll find that a goodly percentage of the users here fall into that category.

Transparency would help, allow us to see who has voted on a thread and how that score was derived. Not hard to do, and you've got nothing to lose if you're not actually stuffing the ballots. When can we expect this change?
