Oh I never get Apple Care. I am careful most of the time (knock on wood).
Apple Care is a waste of money. I don't even do this for my phone and it's always out of my pocket. Desktop machines def no. laptops I don't do either since seldom charge it and risk of tripping over it is very rare. I also always put my coffee BEHIND the screen if I am at a cafe.

I ALWAYS get Apple care and haven't ever regretted what I've spent on it and looking at it over time, I've always come out ahead.

I need $450 16GB/256 upgraded to 24GB/256 for $550. lol. not memory + ssd for $400 more! I rather
just get 2 base M4 Mac Mini for $900 and figured out how to load distribute across them.

Most people aren't getting Macs in order to have a distributed workload. It would probably be cheaper to get a few Pis if your goal is cost and power efficiency.

Any Mac Mini M4 beyond the base is a ripoff even with the discount.

Make sure you have a specific use case that requires the upgrade.

LLM being one of them.

Good luck with that. 🤣 Saying it like it's even possible.

Usually people don't buy M4 max to do text editing. People know what they get.

Hey FTC! We need to investigate these shysters trying to sell $35 worth of memory and SSD for $600, and then labelling it for sale for "only" $450 over the sale price of the machine. Sheeple, don't buy this crap and maybe Apple will learn and drop their prices.
Apple isn't using regular consumer ram like your x86 system uses. The reason why you can merely upgrade it yourself and why you pay more is the same reason why ram on GPUs are much more expensive. Apple uses a UMA and the ram is much faster and much more expensive.

Then explain their SSD pricing.

Uhm . To clarify UMA is "unified memory architecture", and Apples fancy way of saying "shared memory ". It absolutely uses DRAM chips like LPDDR5.

Making it user replaceable would mean adding a very expensive socket , adding more tracing and complexity that would reduce performance, make motherboard larger, and add cost. Also, Apple support and Genius Bar wouldn't have to spend time troubleshooting end users who did not insert or use correct memory specification.

Apple is simply trying to make most money possible while maintaining a "high quality experience "

I'll agree with the SSD pricing, I'm just pointing out the mistake about RAM

I was hoping you were an absolute Apple apologist. Since third parties have proven in recent months that you can get SSDs from third parties that are faster than Apple's own.
