Product title claims 84W, but if you read further into it, the max total output across all ports can't exceed 45W.

Good catch. An image in the reviews shows that the stated max total output of the charger is 45W.
Adding up the max output of each individual port gives you 84W but that figure is highly deceptive/misleading.

It is not deceptive. All chargers in the market are all like that. There's always the total output and max per port. Lastly if they are nice they will also list what each support like pps, pd etc...

It is deceptive because wattage rating in the product name should always be the total output, which in this case is 45W, not 84W. I understand that each port has a max output rating, but adding up the max output of all ports is bogus if the number you get (84W) is below the actual total output of the charger. Meaning, that number tells you absolutely nothing about the charger. You would never see that from any of the reputable brands (Ugreen, Baseus etc).

I wouldn't say "all chargers" abide by that wattage system, but many do. For example, I have two different Anker's that are advertised by their highest single power rating (a 65w and 67w model) however both are capable of 100w+ of total output if you add all the ports together, even after considering the ports step down in output when all are being utilized.

I neither claim is "deceptive" IMO but can be misleading and you need to understand the yardstick they are using to rate their devices.

Just a real world example for a similar practice outside of chargers: I work in commercial HVAC, some manufacturers use the input capacity to rate their (air and water) heaters while others use the output capacity. That difference can be 20+ percent and if you don't realize they aren't apples to apples at first glance, you might pick the larger because you think it is more powerful or you may pick the smaller one because you are worried your gas SUPPLY is insufficient for the larger (apparent) gas demand (which in reality might be the same).
