sams club scan n go checkout is definitely way ahead of costco but i still generally tend to prefer costco product quality although for 50%+ of things they are basically the same. wonder how the $5 chickens compare nowadays, costco's has gone down hill.

ONE thing that I still can't find elsewhere is the beef short ribs that they have. It was the best, cheapest ribs that I can ever find. But price has gone up since and I don't go by there often anymore to justify their membership.
Sam's Club is the opposite. With Plus membership they have early hours to get there and shop before the general public. Parking is rarely an issue. Scan-n-go is the best thing for shopping EVER (except when I need to buy booze, then I have to wait in the cattle line to checkout and pay). But overall, I find Sam's Club just as good as Costco (which, to be honest, has become a Sky Mall warehouse of expensive, niche products for the rich with most name-brand items you love being replaced by Kirkland).
Example: currently an IHOP $50 GC goes for $38, Dominos $100 GC for $75, or Coldstone Creamery $30 GC goes for $20.
After that wait period I just signed up with the link (since it has a code attached). Used same email, cc, & number for signup.
It asked me if I was a previous member, I just said no & it continue to sign up just fine. Was only charged $20+tax & picked up my physical membership card yesterday with no issues.

EDIT: Meh, you can supposedly sign up as a new member if it's been over 6 months, but the idiot system still won't let you reuse the same previous account... which seems rather stupid. Yes I understand reusing an old account kinda defines it as not new, but they're the ones that set the terms as being allowed as new after 6 months. Just dumb to force us to create a new account.
