Excellent tool. The 'Auto' part is just marketing. You can use this through the aux jack to make a old 'dumb' stereo receiver into a smart one. Quick, easy bluetooth/wifi/smart assistant access to anything that you can plug headphones into.

There's a workaround to prevent Alexa from making these kind of suggestions, including upsell recommendations.....

Wanna stop Alexa from EVER saying "By the way" and offering you a suggestion you absolutely DO NOT CARE ABOUT? Here's how:

Say to any of your devices, "Alexa.... stop By The Way". If she says "Okay, I will snooze my suggestions for now", then you can count on a couple of days of silence and will know that the command works. (The command will not necessarily work on ALL devices. If it doesn't work on the one you tried, try another). Next, we get tricky and get her to shut up forever.

Open the Alexa App and do the following:
1: More > Routines > New (the "+" in the upper corner)
2: Enter Routine Name > give it a name (I use "Shut Up"), tap Next
3: When This Happens> Schedule > At Time
4: Repeat=Every Day, At Time=2am (my preference, choose the time you want), tap Next
5: Add Action > Custom > 'stop by the way' (without quotes), tap Next
6: Choose Device: Pick one of your devices, tap Save

Important.... while this will apply to ALL of your devices, the device you pick in step 6, at the time you select in step 4, will respond when the routine runs by saying, "Okay, I will snooze my suggestions for now". My suggestion is to have this run overnight while you're asleep, but have it run ON a device that won't disturb you when it talks. I use my Garage Flex at 2am, since it's unlikely I'll be sleeping out there then.

By having the routine run daily, it should permanently remove the "By The Way" suggestions from your life, since each request gives you 2-3 days of peace. This will work until Amazon catches on and changes their software.

lol… if that was a thing, the device in your pocket that actually has positional awareness would've already been used for this decades ago. You're the same type of person that said insurance companies and police were going to use EZPass to up rates and ticket… yeah, that never happened either.Take off the tin foil hat brah, it's boiling your brain.
Best part is, we don't even need our phones to collect and send the data. The cars sell it directly (auto opt in) over the built in SIM card to third parties, no middle man required!
Luckily, there's been some progress on trying to mitigate this sort of behavior in the past year

I use it because my car has an aux but no Bluetooth. It connects to aux my phone connects to it, means I don't plug things in when I get in the car. The Alexa part of it works ok, I use voice commands to control my audible audiobook. If my car had Bluetooth this would be a waste but it's cheaper than replacing a built in stereo

Audible is the reason why I use it. I like being a
ble to tell if to rewind 30 seconds or two minutes or however long I want it to. I've got an older car with Aux also. Libby doesn't have voice commands that I can find so audible it is

Since this is an array of microphones that communicates to the Alexa app on your phone, then your phone connects to your car, the problem is NOT with the Echo Auto (*for BT anyway).

I have a gen 1 that has intermittent issues and requires a restart frequently. When I had looked to replace it with a new one I was surprised to see how much the normal price is. Even at $25, you can find alternatives that have Google and apple play with a touchscreen. I paid less than $32 all in for a 7 inch touchscreen instead of more to replace the dysfunctioning echo. Good value at 25 if you don't want a touchscreen and GPS but you can find Slickdeals for better options at a similar price point

I still have two of the original Echo Auto's (whatever their name was) in a box. We tried one of them and it made absolutely no sense. Just use your phone.

The question is one of interface, what is the use case for your car?

Does your 2026 car have android auto or apple car support? If so, you probably don't need this

Except Google is absolutely useless as an assistant. Dumber then a box of rocks.
