I got this on last deal. works great. lasts waaay longer than I need it to and it's fairly loud. I paid a bit more last time though so at sub $10 it's a fantastic deal.

This isn't a shill post (although in fairness, most Amazon posts on Slickdeals are) - I have one of these that I use up at the cabin, and it's definitely worth the $10. One of the white noises is the exact sound I need, and I can easily adjust the volume based on whether I have the windows open or closed (so that it offsets the overall ambient noise). I also have a Dohm machine at home that I love the sound of, but the lack of volume control has always been an issue (I have to locate it a specific distance from the bed). Ultimately, I just caved in and bought a second one of these Dreameggs (for use at home and travelling).

For those who want more fan-like or machine-like sounds, or just more control without playing Youtube videos, there are several good free sleep noise apps on f-droid.

Chroma Doze lets you draw the noise spectrum you want.
Noice has a big library of noises like airplane cabins, electric cars, trains, and water. You can make and save your own mixes of them.
I haven't tried Soothing Noise Player.

Bought this last time for my 14 year-old who has a hard time sleeping without some sort of noise. He took it on his eighth grade trip to Washington DC and thanked me when he got home. Lasted the entire trip and then some.
