R454b isn't super expensive (plus these units use such a TINY charge the qty doesn't matter at price per pound) but it is hard to get right now. Not the actual refrigerant but in the disposable cylinders used in the field; there is a tiny safety device used on the refrigerant cylinders which is in short supply. Without that relief valve, they cannot make the containers thus package the refrigerant. Companies that are buying 125lb tanks of refrigerant have zero issue getting the refrigerant and are selling r454b at normal prices. Soon none of this will be an issue when supply catches up to demand.

And like mitsured said....later R410A will be expensive as well.

urlhasbeenblocked support confirmed that this unit (and the 24k BTU I bought) come precharged (not lineset).

By the time you need refrigerant 410 will probably be as well.

The Chemours Company is an American chemical company that was founded in July 2015 as a spin-off from DuPont. It is currently being sued by the Pennsylvania Attorney General, for knowingly exposing the public to PFAS.
Chemours doesn't have a proprietary patent on R32 which is 69% component of R-454b so Chemours obviously wants the market to go the route of R-454b.
Over all R32 is a much better refrigerant than R-454b in efficiency and capacity and it is not going anywhere unless they are going to withdraw R-454b.

Id be surprised if they were 80% as efficient. You have to cool the hot air from the outside vs cooling already cool air. Plus a window is opened and can't really be sealed as well. Plus heat transfer on the exhaust tube and heat exchanger/compressor inside the room.
thats not how dual hose portables work, the air they suck in from outside is to cool the compressor and then goes back out, much more efficient than single hose models

it still recirculates and cools the air inside

Portable air conditioners (seer 6 or so) are not nearly in the same league as window units (seer 11 or so) which are still at times half the efficiency of minisplits (seer 18-22 or so).

The HVAC part is not too difficult.

It's the electrical part where you need a dedicated outside unplug and a dedicated breaker from the panel and run all the wires… PITA
HVAC is not easy by any means. IDK why everybody says that. You need EPA license to become a HVAC tech.

So, both of you, which is it? 120v or 240v? R32 or R454B?

I mean not HVAC in general but to install this mini split, mount and connect both units outside and inside, just be careful when tight those nuts, test leak at all connection, vacuum it and make sure it doesn't leak, I mean plenty of Youtube videos show you details EVERY SINGLE STEP of the HVAC part.

What they don't show you is the electrical part, because of the liability, this is the difficulty if you want to do it properly and up to code. I just want to find an unit where I can just plug in to my 110V power outlet inside.

Does anyone know if this unit comes pre charged? most just need a vacuum and open up the valves. killer deal if so. if not getting the refrigerant is annoying.
All of the unit came with pre charge and ready to use ! unless you screw up during installation then you have to recharge the unit !

Go to facebook/market place buy 12000 BTU with wifi for less than $350/unit net, run 110 or 220v , If you need more than 12000 BTU then you have to go with 220V.

My unit was delivered yesterday, It's R32 and 230v. I plan on installing it this weekend and might buy the 1.5 ton to replace an old Mitsubishi I have in my garage.

No one is going to repair these units for you. Where are you getting the parts from? They are throw aways for sure.

Which is the new refrigerant that magically disappears and costs more than gold?
R32 comes with it - is interchangeable w/ R410 AFAIK

This code works for the 9,000 BTU units linked but I have been unable to get it to apply to any other inverter types. I'd love getting a 12,000 at a similar discount but it doesn't seem to apply? What did you have it work on?
