If you're in the market for a high-end cordless heat gun, the Steinel MH5 kit (Item #110084905) could be a good deal. It includes the MH5 heat gun, a case, charger, and an 18V 8Ah CAS battery. The battery alone typically sells for around $200 and is compatible with other tools in the Cordless Alliance System, including Mafell, Metabo (Not HPT), Stabila and other German brands. If you're already in the CAS ecosystem or thinking about joining it, this adds a lot more value. I've never seen these go on sale before

My $35 Hercules heat gun from harbor freight has been serviceable. Is this one really THAT much better?

The 8Ah battery alone is indeed quite expensive. I just looked it up, a Metabo 8Ah is $196.25 on Amazon, so it's "only" a $100 heat gun.

I am talking about the original price alone. per your comment, then the heat gun alone would be $450 without the sale, which is ridiculous because this is no better than $20 ones you find from amazon. it's literally a heated coil with a fan and a handle..

Steinel batteries are compatible with bosch. Just an FYI. Not sure what a $300 heat gun is necessary for but yes Steinel is a high end brand.

It's definitely better than a $35 Hercules, but it's not worth the retail price for DIY. The gun is for professional applications where an unstable temperature or sudden thermal shutoff can ruin an expensive job. You get precise digital temperature with feedback control and programmable presets. And you're paying for reliable industrial grade controls, brushless motors, ceramic heaters, and sturdy casing.
If you use CAS tools, then at the sale price you are basically paying $100 for a heat gun which is around what you would pay for a Dewalt cordless heat gun which is made in China.
