Probably fine at 16, but I really hate that they went to soldered RAM in so many models.

It's also tough to determine when it's soldered but includes an open slot. That's less frequent now and this says "dual channel", so safe assumption it's not.

Lenovo has already mentioned that it's dual-channel and soldered, which means no open slots. Also, this is fairly common with thin and light laptops, esp. 13-inchers.

This is the anti-ThinkPad.
Soldered RAM, no Trackpad, minimal ports, glued-shut design.
Every purchase like this signals to Lenovo that gutting ThinkPad DNA is fine, as long as they slap a logo on it and call it "Pro."
Support it if you want more ThinkPads without ThinkPad features.

From pics, there appears to be a trackpoint but they really need to make 32GB ram an option

Yes, it still has a TrackPoint but no physical buttons, that's what I meant.

It's not tough to determine if RAM is soldered or if there is a SO-DIMM slot. There is one rule -- if it says "LPDDR" in the spec, then it's soldered and there is NO SLOT. If it says DDR5, some may be soldered (or not) and there may be a SODIMM slot (or not).

Most non-gaming laptops these days use high-speed LPDDR5X RAM. Low power and fast.

This is meant to be like XPS or MacBook. Memory is all soldered - actually newer ThinkPad designs (this is 3 years old now) are much more repairable. Replaceable batteries, easy to remove keyboards, etc.

They claim it is to improve performance but we all know its planned obsolescence.
I recently came across a laptop from the mid 2000s. The RAM, HDD & Wi-Fi card all could accessed in seconds via panels. The battery was clipped on the back.

According to AMD, the 7840U was introduced 05/2023, so more like 2 years old now.

Another CB site is also offering 15% back for Lenovo. This seems pretty enticing...

Even my ThinkPad Chromebook (C13 Yoga) has USB-C ×2 (incl. charging port), Full HDMI, USB-A, and microSD slots...

The CB site I use is 10% plus my AMEX has a 20% off Lenovo (up to $105 max credit) benefit now. On the OLED model, that makes it a little less than $600 for the OLED 3K version.
