October 25th 2025 for gen 1&2 apparently lose cloud support and smart features.

Gen 3 likely has 2+ years pending profit/class action

Even though this is the third generation, it still gets all of the updates and runs perfectly. there's actually a class action suit where I think that everything will work out in the future, but I do know that third generation is fine. I have one, is Good price, especially if this is new

Check with your utility provider, they might have a better deal or even free ones. I've gotten a dozen or so free nest thermostats from my natural gas provider over the years (there are occasionally threads posted here about it).

BGE here in Maryland does that -- I could buy a thermostat quite cheaply through them. I haven't looked recently, but they like the smart thermostats because then they can hit you up with the "smart savings" and shut your AC off when it's hot. Oh, I'm sorry, "Cycle your system during times of peak demand."
I've had the 3rd gen one for 5+ years, and it's been flawless. That said, I won't buy another Google product, ever, since they kill off anything that's good, like Nest (I'm holding onto my Nest Protects until they die).

I just looked it up for te company where I am and their great program is I have to let my thermostat be remotely adjusted by up to 4 degrees for up to 4 hours during big weather events. loi. If I sign up for that, I get money and I get money every year for continuing it and it said the thermostat manufacturer is who adjusts the temperature...

edit: I thought I found a site where, through the utility company, I'd get $100 off any smart thermostat, but of course it was misleading... $35 of it was if you had recently bought another one and $65 was if you join that program I mentioned.
