This watch made me a runner. I ran 5k, 10k and now preparing for half marathon. I recommend it. Excellent battery life.
I used to have an Apple Watch 7. I ditched it as it was always discharged when I wanted to exercise.

I think the Vivoactive has a steel bezel. The Forerunners are all plastic. Some features are upgrades from your Vivoactive, but others are not. Also, both of those watches are pretty old and lack the latest Garmin sports and health features.

Anyone here compared this to Instinct 2x Solar?

Battery is shorter than Instinct (14 vs 28 days) but the display is a huge upgrade, 255 is thinner and more stylish

Have it. Love it. I wear the FR 255 24/7. Used it in countless runs from daily to 5k to marathon. This is an excellent watch for anyone training for their first or even fifth marathon. It doesn't have a touch screen, so if you need that look elsewhere. Is you want a highly reliable runners watch with excellent battery life, the FR 255 is an excellent choice at this price point.

If your going to use the courses feature for more than an hour or just be outside in general, MIP is my preference and gives far longer battery life. Plus, longer battery life equals fewer charge cycles, which means greater product longevity. And you can't beat the always on display. MIP for the win!

I am primarily looking for running and over all health statistics. How does this compare to forerunner 165.

Yeah, but how about the stability of the software and data recording accuracy?

Do any of these watches lock the collected data behind a paywall?

I know some people will say no touchscreen but I can't fathom why anybody wants one in a running watch. It is far easier to navigate with buttons than touchscreen especially while running.

The screen doesnt comes on. When I flip the wrist, it comes on, then off after 10 sec. It is not a problem here.

The screen is really dull on MIP.

I've been using the S version for about 2 years now. It's overall great at what it does. I did not want a mini-smartphone on my wrist, I only wanted it for the specific functions that it does and it does them well. The MIP display is excellent in the sun and subdued in the office so it doesn't stand out, plus battery life is overall excellent.
