Unless Amazon has already patched it, you can always jailbreak it and install koreader. I'm using it right now on my Paperwhite. It's a muuuch better reading experience.

Original scribe is alright. It's finally a larger one again sinxe they killed off the DX a decade ago. But their fear of mobi and epub is enough to make me not buy another kindle product. Going with literally any other brand from now on.

Doubtful it'll be cheaper. Amazon branded items like Echo, Kindles etc usually get their Prime Day discounts a week ahead of time. This would be the prime day discount.
