Very disappointing that Garmin cancelled the altimeter feature from Vivoactive 5 (and 6). This was an important features of earlier Vivoactive watches.

Dang, Amazon keeps dropping the price...kind of kicking myself for buying it a month ago when it was $235...oh well, I guess I can rationalize the extra $40 I paid for an extra 4 weeks of use vs waiting? 🤣 Overall I love this smartwatch though, it's perfect for logging my runs, walks, lifts, indoor as well as outdoor cycling...it even can log/time breathwork/meditation sessions! Menu system is less intuitive than my old Google Pixel, but this one is far superior in every other way, especially battery life and the priceless ability to connect to a chest HRM strap (all wrist based HRMs suck in comparison). The customization and wealth of data when syncing with the Garmin Connect website is light years better than that stupid Fitbit app which requires a subscription if you want all the features.

May I ask which Garmin hrm you use?

How does the accuracy compare to the polar?
The Garmin Dual HRM. The Polar is more stable; the Garmin sometimes loses signal if it slides around just a little on my chest during a workout, and sometimes won't reconnect unless I pull it about 1/4" to the left off-center. If I had to do it over, I would not buy the Garmin strap.

What chest strap monitor are you using? You have that paired with this device?TIA
I don't know about this device. But I have a forerunner 45 that I have my Polar H10 chest strap paired with. I also have a Scosche Rhythm R+2.0 forearm strap paired with the Garmin watch. I basically use the Forerunner to just display the HR on my wrist. It doesn't hurt that it logs it in the Garmin connect app as well. The straps are also simultaneously connected to Polar Beat app on my phone, which I use to view real-time data and track HR trends,

BTW, since I started using the Scocshe, I don't bother with chest straps anymore. It's accurate enough(much better than wrist sensors) and stays accurate while doing movements that involve core rotation (even rowing on the concept machine), unlike the chest strap.

1st time garmin user... just got this yesterday and it feels cheap. The integration is piecemeal at best. Really not liking the fat a$$ bezel options or a lack of features that don't come native.

Can someone tell me aside from the battery why people gravitate to Garmin?

This watch is about to go back...
yes i still have an apple watch and phone (don't use them any longer) switched to pixel and like it. Now trying to pair an impressive watch with it for an overall better experience.
The person i know that owns a pixel watch 3 wouldn't buy it again... watched a ton of youtube reviews and really wanted a great feature rich watch that is bulletproof (nearly)

HELP...

I think people prefer garmin because of battery life and because it have a bigger list of activities to track.

In addition to that, certain Garmin watches are MIL-STD-810 tested. Not quite bulletproof, but "MIL-STD-810 is a rating given to certain Garmin products that have been tested against thermal, shock and water performance, ensuring a rugged device designed to get you back to your passion". https://support.garmin.com/en-US/...hPWprw5N0A

depends what you are looking for in a watch? apple/googleOS watches are in a different league with apps. People love Garmin usually because it's a no nonsense fitness watch with app notifications and some capabilities for music playback. But it's not an extension of your phone. why do that when you can just have your phone. So if your not looking fitness focused, you will find the Garmin stuff lame. Fitness focused gives you better battery life, more activities for tracking, better tracking and workout plans based on sleep, heart rate and other metrics to gauge how much power you have to muster to workout.

Do people really need apps on watches? Seems like an addiction. At most maps and calls, okay...but games and other crap?!

Just give health stuff, GPS for offline maps, music control, exercise tracking, etc.
