I think it looks great but unless you clean it pretty much every day it is not great for the birds.

I think if it's not cloudy you're good? Temperature is a big thing with changing frequency. Make a big batch and just put out enough for what they're drinking. Absolutely the cheapest sugar... the white sugar... anything else is bad.

I think in terms of "did the food go bad?" you don't have to worry... they just won't eat it as I understand. Disease is different.

I'm not an expert just feed a lot of birds.

I just clean the hummingbird feeders in the sink when I change the sugar water

Is there something specific you don't like about this design?

This thing would have to be refilled 3 - 5 times a day for me.

We've had this feeder for about three years now. Have had to replace the silicone gasket twice. We don't get a ton of hummingbird traffic but would clean and refill once a week. The chain can get finicky if it kinks. The solar portion worked fine but was detrimental to the life of the gasket. Overall a beautiful feeder, pain in the butt to clean though.

We only feed the HBs in winter. Having metal perches doesn't seem like a good idea for freezing temperatures.
