It's such a scam that these things have essentially not changed in 30 years and they are still this expensive.

true but the schools require this model and ti has a captive market.

Also why the thumbs downs? people have no choice but to buy this calculator and it's the best price i've found.

Reported for ripoff kids parents. Many kids don't even have food to eat. Meanwhile this garbage company and the corrupted school system politicians allow this scam going on for decades.

Because these are required for so many classes it's pretty easy to find a good example used at a huge discount. My kid is currently using this model since I picked it up for $5 at a yard sale.

Downvoting a legitimate deal on a new in box calculator because it's technically possible to find one cheaper at a garage sale doesn't seem particularly productive. Though it's admittedly not as bad as people downvoting because of TI's monopoly, as though OP has any control over that.

It's definitely not the deal of the century, but this comment section is a bit wack. Thumbs upped and repped.

I didn't downvote it - I was just explaining why some people probably did.

People are really angry about these calculators for some reason, probably because they don't understand the value provided by the teachers being able to explain keystrokes across multiple generations of a calculator or making it less likely that kids and cheat on tests.

My point was just that if someone really wants to save money they can look to the used market.

Apologies!

Agreed. The soapbox warriors are downvoting for the wrong reasons. This calculator is required in many high schools, and this is a good price. TU and repped.

This is a good deal but; some competition would be great for us the consumers?

I didn't thumbs down.It isn't the poster's fault so why would I do that? It's a "good deal" relative to the overpriced nature of these things. I've got a kid headed into HS and will need to get one but I paid about the same for my own 25 years ago, same tech. TI has spent big money to lobby DoE to make certain math classes required and lobbied College Board to make these the required equipment to artificially inflate the market while having to spend essentially nothing on innovation. It's a scam and I stand by that statement a hundred times over.
