You can use the USB port. They can both do 2k at 60 fps but with HDR off. The A229 is larger on the front but smaller for the rear.

Yes, you can rename it. They also have different wifi names.

Yes, also in TX and use a sunshade. No problems with the TX heat. I had a problem with the white screen of death but that was in the Winter. This was rare for the A119 mini 2.

I actually have the opposite recommendation, leave the sounds and voice on. Once, the USB cable was loose and I didn't hear it come on. Another time, my memory card was bad so I didn't hear it say, "recording started". If I didn't have the sound and voice on, I would have not known my camera was still off or not recording to the memory card.

4K is more prone to failure than 2K due to more heat. Just search for viofo 4k failure.

Strange how there's no viofo A329 models on amazon, yet they have them on viofo's website.

I've had mine up since dec 2024, no issues here in DFW area.

Also bought the polarized lenses for the front camera which helps reduce glare quite a bit.

Is this any better than the redtiger brand?
I have the VIOFO Mini one of my vehicles now and looking to get one for another vehicle.

Looking the small RedTiger F4 Proc4k. @ $120

Anyone else remember when Viofo dashcams were $33 from GeerBest? That's a price point that made sense to me.

Anyone recommend between either A119 mini and A229 plus 2ch, or even two A119 mini for front and rear? Which would be better?

Is 2ch necessary or front only is good enough for regular driving?

I won't touch another Viofo for a while, if ever. I'm waiting for another replacement and it'll be my last one. No better alternatives. Vantrue is even worse.

Viofo is considered the best brand, which isn't saying much. All the others are just rebadged generic junk. At least viofo has top notch customer support.

Great deal, I'll be getting one tomorrow. Viofo is one of the best brands out there (not saying much since most dash cam quality sucks ). But for what is our there viofo offers better video image quality than most other dash cams including those that are more expensive than it. Linustechtips did a video on this on the a119 model. Since then the a229 came out and is even better

I've been hunting dash cams forever, every comment chain and website turns me off of ALL dashcams lol. Viofo apparently is one of the better brands according to the Dashcams subreddit.

You never know who's a shill anymore and what sites are legit versus paid advertising. I decided to trust this consensus and go with a viofo once it reaches a price I'm willing to pay.

Also if you are a research addict, dashcam has a lot of features variety to consider - parking mode, 2-3 channel (aka rear and interior), power mechanisms - suggest you find the features you want, and then grab the unit that provides this at best price.

Yes, they use a capacitor so it works well in the heat. Been running different Viofos for 8+ years. The only one I had to RMA was due to a white screen in the Winter so definitely not due to the heat.

I actually have one car that has the A229 Plus 2 ch and one car that has 2 A119 mini 2. I did 2 minis because I already had one so I just added one to the rear. It's easier on my van because I don't have to connect the rear cam to the front cam and I have 120v power port in the 3rd row. The cargo 12v is always on so I didn't want to drain the battery.

It depends what you want, do you have a place for power in the rear? Do you want to use 2 microsd cards?

Yes, I would recommend a front and rear camera so you have more coverage.

If you drive in a state where a license plate is required in the front, a rear dashcam can protect you from a hit & run. Otherwise, getting rear ended is usually the other driver's fault as long as they stick around.

I've bought 3 Viofo A119 V3s (from 2018 and 2020) and an A229Plus 2ch since January 2025; all are still in use across multiple vehicles.
