You can use the USB port. They can both do 2k at 60 fps but with HDR off. The A229 is larger on the front but smaller for the rear.
Yes, you can rename it. They also have different wifi names.
Yes, also in TX and use a sunshade. No problems with the TX heat. I had a problem with the white screen of death but that was in the Winter. This was rare for the A119 mini 2.
I actually have the opposite recommendation, leave the sounds and voice on. Once, the USB cable was loose and I didn't hear it come on. Another time, my memory card was bad so I didn't hear it say, "recording started". If I didn't have the sound and voice on, I would have not known my camera was still off or not recording to the memory card.
I won't touch another Viofo for a while, if ever. I'm waiting for another replacement and it'll be my last one. No better alternatives. Vantrue is even worse.
Did you wire it right? I never have issue with their dash cam. My old a119 is like 8 years old.
I would recommend 2 minis but i'm waiting for my 3rd replacement and not optimistic it will last. They die after a few months regardless of the climate.
I've had my 119v3 for years now, still going fine. Maybe you've just had bad luck?
Yes, they use a capacitor so it works well in the heat. Been running different Viofos for 8+ years. The only one I had to RMA was due to a white screen in the Winter so definitely not due to the heat.I actually have one car that has the A229 Plus 2 ch and one car that has 2 A119 mini 2. I did 2 minis because I already had one so I just added one to the rear. It's easier on my van because I don't have to connect the rear cam to the front cam and I have 120v power port in the 3rd row. The cargo 12v is always on so I didn't want to drain the battery. It depends what you want, do you have a place for power in the rear? Do you want to use 2 microsd cards? Yes, I would recommend a front and rear camera so you have more coverage.

This statement changed my thinking! TY
Anyone recommend between either A119 mini and A229 plus 2ch, or even two A119 mini for front and rear? Which would be better?
Is 2ch necessary or front only is good enough for regular driving?
I have 2 A119s because I want 2 SD cards with a lot of storage. I don't want 1 card that's shared by 2 cameras. This is best for parking mode.
It's not much more work to set up. You can tap into power somewhere near the back with an in line fuse. You could do an add-a-fuse from the front and run a small power wire to the back with an accessory outlet. You could also buy their hardwire kit. It let's you run the camera in parking mode.
Someone scratched my car a couple of days ago in the Walmart parking lot (my car was parked, and I was shopping). So, I was planning to buy a dashcam that has parking monitor feature.
So, I have some noob questions:
Do I need to hard wire the dash cam to my car for using motion detection feature?
If I use the motion detection feature will it drain my car battery?
I already have a dash cam which only activates when I start my car, but my plan is to monitor the car when unattendant. will this dashcam serve the purpose?

I recognize your experience has been what it is, but it doesn't take much searching to see this is atypical; something is fishy if your cameras are consistently dying.
I have an A119 that's 8 years old and an A229 Plus that's a few years old, no problems. Regular exposure to 90+ degree, baking sun DC heat.
My A119 mini died after about 6 months. It took about a week of emailing for them to agree to a replacement. I first had to ship my dead unit (at my expense) and provide a tracking number. Then they shipped me a replacement FROM CHINA. That's the weirdest part. Why didn't they ship them from the US? I'm currently waiting for the replacement to arrive.
Video quality was quite good. If it didn't die, I was very happy with it.

Strange how there's no viofo A329 models on amazon, yet they have them on viofo's website.
Also bought the polarized lenses for the front camera which helps reduce glare quite a bit.
