An FYI to anyone out there that doesn't know better, be very careful buying these from third party sources. A quick Facebook Marketplace search will turn out a ton of "AirPods Pro Max" headphones at less than half this price, most of them brand new. I believe there are more fakes in circulation than authentic ones at this point. I originally bought a lightning pair for $175 and determined they were fake. The seller refunded me and took them back. I was much more cautious the next time around and scored a brand new lightning c pair for $225, and yes, they are real. That said, I was able to spot countless fakes that I avoided before finally getting my good pair.
Personally, I don't think these are worth $450, but they are very nice headphones.

Absolutely the truth right here! FB Marketplace, eBay, Swappa... If you try and buy a secondhand pair of AirPods Max, absolutely 100% get the serial number and run it through Apple's "Check my Coverage" web portal. That will tell you 1. If they are legit, 2. When they were purchase and 3. How much of the manufacturer's warranty (Or AppleCare+ if applicable) is remaining. I've been looking for a deal and out of all my local FB Marketplace listings I found that the SN was visible, only about 20% of them are not fakes. The fake boxes can be extremely convincing nowadays and some knockoffs will also popup to connect to your Apple devices like the real ones. It's soooo bad, it's quite difficult to buy or sell these online for real people.

It's absolutely crazy! I'v even got counterfeit Apple cables and chargers from Woot, Amazon and Walmart over the past few years... Some I couldn't tell until I watched a YouTube video and then weighed the damned things lol..

A guy on Facebook originally asked $400 for them and dropped the price to $300 obo. I offered $200 and he countered with $250. We met in the middle. The guy didn't know much about the headphones at all and was asking me what was so special about them. He also let me open them to inspect prior to paying.

Fakes have serial numbers that trick Apple's "Check my Coverage". So that is not reliable either.
