The experience of those on the reddit thread isn't good, but as far as warranty goes, Amazon purchases look to be covered.

Do you have access to buy the pro line,
DXP 8800 pro with the i7 chip?
It's pretty obvious UGOS is an attempted clone of the Synology OS, and I think that's a good thing since the latter is great. UGOS is definitely less mature (small UI annoyance, fewer options for app/system behavior, etc.), but it's fine for my simple purpose: acting as redundant back-end storage for my Shield/Kodi setup. It seems to be normal for other people to load other OSs on UGREEN NASs, but I work in enterprise IT as a career, so I just want things to be simple and work at home, so I'm sticking with UGOS.
The storage setup was very simple, and the user/access management is basically the same as Synology, so I have no complaints, especially for <$500. Looking forward to continued refinement of UGOS.

where they showed someone who " bought a 4800plus in China and was able to get a 15% discount from the Chinese government. I bought a brand new 4800plus for $304."
Why do you think the government of China would subsidize a NAS product and why is that the box is so chatty that it routinely contacts servers in China and Russia?
Synology, QNAP, Asustor, etc are Taiwanese based. UGREEN is based in Shenzhen, Guangdong in Mainland China. Taiwan is the 8th most democratic country in the world and has strict privacy laws, far ahead of USA at number 30, and way ahead of China which has no elections.

Early this year China expanded a subsidy (which applies to both foreign and domestic brands [gov.cn]) where residents could purchase one item in each of a few categories and get a subsidy of 15% of the price.
The intent of this policy is to encourage and increase domestic (ie, in China) consumption. The person who posted that failed to mention they needed a CCCP citizen number to get the subsidy. He does suggest that the easiest way is to find a Chinese student to help you buy lollll
