This needs to be powered and can't be reversed to have 2 inputs and 1 output? Seems like a lousy product compared to others available.

You're describing a signal switch, not a signal splitter.

This is normally $20 and it doesn't come with the USB cable. That would be fine if it was USB-C to USB a or a combination of either two. But I think I would have to buy the cable because I don't think I even have a micro USB. I threw them all away because they are an ancient technology.
