It comes with a battery. It has a little plastic piece that you remove to activate the tag. I put it back in when not traveling to extend the life of the battery (typically 2 yrs). It is extremely useful. I travel a lot and can track my luggage (tells you where it is, if it is on the plane, made it to the destination, etc.). For safety, I put one in both kids backpacks when school is in session. I know some people put it in their vehicles; not sure if it is that good? Some people put it on their pet's collar. Your imagination is endless with options. Think outside the box.
Thanks. Putting that plastic piece back to preserve battery life is a good tip.

I am familiar with tracking devices. Apple AirTags are in all of my to be checked luggages.
About a year and a half ago, after making a connection and then landing at my destination in Europe, one piece of luggage never showed up on the conveyor belt. A quick check told me in was still sitting at EWR.
Yes, I know this offer is not for an AirTag. I am getting this as a present for someone who has a Galaxy phone.

What tracker are you using with the Google Find Hub?
I've had tile, chipolo point, mitag, and mototags. Mototags is my newest purchase and is the only tag with UWB and the ability to update the firmware. Volume on the mototag sucks. Chipolo I will say has issue with losing connectivity as one of the wallet cards became defunct within 3 weeks of using it. One of my chipolo point trackers (or whatever version is compatible with Find hub) stops responding to ring requests.

If I'm gonna chose it's gonna be the mototag although it's obnoxious that you have to buy a holder for it to attach to keys etc.

Personally I'd stay away from anything proprietary now as Google's "Find Hub" has gotten infinitely better over the last six months and is supported by all Android phones including Samsung. With over 3 billion active Android devices the coverage is massive.

That said, "Find Hub" still lacks a major feature which alerts you when you've left something behind, which Apple and I believe Samsung both support.

But for tracking I've actually found Googles "Find Hub" to work just as well as Apple if not better, especially since Android represents around 72% of the global market share.
The issue is with these trackers UWB is awesome i wouldn't want to go with anything else. Being able to track something from 40 feet away down to how far away it is by the foot blows away any bluetooth or wifi tracker.

Even as an android user, this is misleading and very country dependent

In the US:
  • iOS holds about 57–59 % of the U.S. smartphone market
  • Android sits around 41–43 %
Moot point. If you're an Apple iPhone user, I would go with Apple's trackers in a heartbeat. I agree with your US assessment. But if you're an Android phone user, I would switch to Android's "Find Hub" service, as it includes all Android-based phones, including Samsungs. You need to play the density game to get the most out of Android tracking tags. Samsung's service was a great clone of Apple's, but as mentioned, Google has finally stepped up their game.

Yes, I agree about UWB. Google introduced UWB support to Find Hub in May 2025, though the functionality is currently limited to specific high-end Android devices with UWB chips. I believe only the Moto Tag supports it at the moment, along with certain UWB-capable phones like the Google Pixel series. But I think that will grow quickly as more vendors and tag makers adopt it.

Most main line galaxy phones have included it since the S21 series I believe. It's always segmentation that kills services like this that need large groups to work. Having separate networks for Tile, Samsung, Apple and Google just make it that much worse for everyone. Also what annoys me is that there are no UWB credit card shaped trackers that I can find. Only bluetooth.
