I really wish Google would just go ahead and implement a feature on Android that would allow ANY Android device to update the location of a tag, much like Apple does with their airtags. t's next to useless in my eyes considering only a quarter of people in the US actually have a Samsung device versus Apple users at 60%.
Bumping it up from 25% to 40% by implementing some sort of ability to update a 'Google Tag' would make an android based tag much more feasible...
These things are fantastic, particularly if you have a Plus or Ultra model phone with UWB. I was concerned about the network coverage originally, but I leave one attached to a bike outside, and it gets location updates pretty regularly when somebody with a Samsung phone walks by. Battery life on the 2nd Gen devices is hugely improved, and the newer form factor is nice - the shape and textures are very satisfying to fidget with. The built in keychain is a nice touch.
I honestly use my keys to find my phone much more frequently than the other way around, so it's been when more useful than anticipated. This is a great price for a single, though I have seen 4 packs for $15 each.
bluetooth.
all Samsung with Android 11 and up.
not automatically opted in.
you have to install the Samsung Smart Things App.
you can opt out, but you lose the ability to track your own tags.

That said, I think the issue is a little overblown. You can find plenty of reviews comparing coverage, and if you're in a relatively populated area, you're going to be able to find your stuff.

wow android copying iOS that's a first. Usually other around
So what's the universe of Samsung devices that can help detect where this tag is? Is it just certain Samsung Galaxy phones? Are these Samsung devices automatically opted in to be part of their tracking network? Is there a way to opt out?

Is the battery replaceable?
battery is a CR2032,
easily replaceable, ejection with a pin, exactly like ejection of sim card from phone.
the included CR2032 is a cheap chinese battery that died between 1 to 3 months.
only buy, Energizer CR2032 Lithium, going on +1 years now, and app still show GREEN.
