My understanding is it isn't just multi-tasking. The 9800x3d can handle multi-tasking well for the avg user. The 9950x and 9900x3d is really beneficial for video editing and rendering. I opted to get the 9800x3d and save some cash.

Yes multitasking includes video/3d rending, encoding...etc.

AMD already has a 3 year warranty on the CPU. Personally I didn't opt for it. In all the PCs I've built, the only one that has shown any problems is the i7-13700K. But that is a special case as it is already known to have an issue.
Some Asrock motherboards have been bricking the 9XXXx3D chips. My 9950x3D got bricked by my x870e Nova Wifi, but AMD replaced it (took a month). Make sure you have your BIOS updated.

I did see the issue with Asrock. It was one of the reasons I decided against it. I ended up staying with Asus, as that was what I built with in my last 4 builds (mine and the kids).

Can confirm. Bestbuy price matched via chat. And I do not have a microcenter store within a 500-mile radius around me. Northcentral Florida.

Should I add the $90 3 year replacement plan?
In 3 years you'll be able to buy this for under $90. Plans like this are a total scam meant to catch suckers.

I get your point...but in three years, this will be discontinued way before it hits $90 just like the 5800x3d.

For sure, I was just using it as context. Even if this didn't already have a warranty, which it does, $90 is an absurd price for a three year replacement. The chance of this dying in three years is extremely small.

Yup, understood. But you may be right, maybe not $90 but a lot cheaper in the future. Now that I thought about it again, the 5800x3d was discontinued mainly because of the end of life of AM4 socket. The 9800x3d would still be produced for many years to come on AM5 socket.

9800X3D is amazing for gaming. I've owned one since November 2024 and it has been a blast. Just make sure to update the firmware on your motherboard.

It wasn't only Asrock, some were Asus and other manufacturer's boards too, but the bulk were Asrock. It seems they were overvolting the CPU and frying them. The new bios is supposed to have fixed it (mine is good so far, but so was my old one for two months lol).
