There's a crazy new trend called "reading in bed". It's pretty wild stuff. People will turn this light on, open a thing called a book, and begin to read words on the pages of these books. Once they're tired, they'll turn the light off, close their eyes and go to sleep.

So what I'm understanding here is you read a kindle in the dark, because it's backlit. Think of this as a back lite for a physical book. Believe it or not people still use books.
