Why is Dell insisting on 300nits? The display is good, high res, good colors, it just needs to be at least 350!

This is their budget line.

Hook it to a decent external monitor and you're good-as-gold. Otherwise, the crap screen they throw in their lower end models isn't great. Even has TB4 in case you wanted to connect a decent dock with multiple monitors.

thx . repped. is the screen that bad ? is 300 nits brightness enough for indoor use only. also is wqxga res too much to run native on a 16 " display for reading text. how much scaling do you end up doing typically

300 nits is enough for indoor. I have not seen this screen, personally, but most other laptop makers use at least a 350- or maybe a 400-nit panel. I'm buying laptops with beautiful 3K 120hz OLED screens in this price range, so to me this is just Dell being cheap.

The screen is 2560x1600 which is perfect for a 16" screen without needing much display scaling adjustments in Windows. It definitely depends on your eyes, and for me, despite being "up there in years", my close vision has staying pretty good so I tend to scale down just a bit to make things smaller and give myself more screen real estate.

Another option to look at is the Acer Swift 16 AI with 16" 3K 120Hz 400-nit Touch OLED (500+ nit HDR) display for $100 more at BestBuy (currently on sale):

Similar specs, but eye-candy for a screen! I'd choose the Acer over the this Dell bottom-line model. (I actually have had this Acer and I liked it).

thx again ! i looked at the ACER but it has16 GB memry option only and dell has the 32GB option and i tend to have too many things running at the same time.
Also in terms of res i figure 2.5K is as much as my eyes can handle on a16" and the acer is slightly more at 3k so would have to scale it up. i am amazed you scale down. i dont have exactly that screen res but it seems to me at 2.5 K on 16" it would already be almost unreadable.

anyway would have preferred the acer screen quality but mainly for text will the difference be noticeably bad for dell... if not i think i will go with the 32 GB dell.

Fair enough -- with 10% off coupon, the 32GB model is only $765 which is a pretty good deal for a 32GB Lunar Lake laptop. Hard-pressed to find another 258V in new condition at that price.

If it doesn't explicitly say, it's 60Hz. Some YT reviews on the 16 Plus say 60Hz also.
