The OLED draws more battery than traditional displays. Maybe setting a dark theme can reduce power consumption like on a phone. I'm just sad that ASUS routinely lies about screen brightness, they'll advertise 500 nits peak brightness, then read the fine print its actually 400 in SDR content, then third parties measure it and its even lower than 400. I need the higher brightness because I want to use it outdoors in the shade so this is a no go for me.

I hate to say it, but you probably should buy an IPS. In general OLEDs are not as bright as IPS. IPS is better for outdoor usage. Thats probably why you got a thumbs down.

It says up to 17hrs of battery life on Newegg... Seems pretty impossible.

They have several other gaming laptops at good prices if you look through their deals section.

Wish it was 14 inch. But I still might get this for college. Would you say it's worth it?

Nvm, the 14 inch model is $999 at Costco but $15 shipping. I might just go for that

Just an fyi- this is not a gaming laptop. It's a high-performance general productivity laptop

Go with the Costco one for better warranty/return options, or get in store. Sometimes it's cheaper and you save on shipping.

Yup, I've been tracking the price on this chip too brother, not sure why whoever thumbed you down did that, gave you a thumb up for being on same ship

Only miniLED really goes brighter and costs significantly more. Plus most cap miniLED SDR brightness around the same as here, ex: Apple's miniLED macs.

For best battery life on this, you can replace MyAsus and most/all of the ASUS software with GHelper and set it to silent + eco mode to extend the battery life. If you want to go even further, you can set different power curves through GHelper and AMD's utility.

Turning off AMD Varibright lowers the battery life a bit but imho it's good to do so unless you're really trying to extend battery, since it changes screen gamma. Set the refresh rate of the display to adaptive too.

All the OLEDs i've seen are glossy, making their outdoor/shaded performance lackluster. I just want a 500nit matte screen and I'd be happy. I ultimately settled for the 300 nit matte HP omnibook 5 15" AI 340, because I couldn't argue with $400 shipped, pre-tax. Even $1500 laptops weren't checking all my boxes either...

Hopefully there will be more bright+matte options in the future! I'm sure there are dozens of us who want to compute outside! ;-)

Beware that Costco one is AI 9 365 model with 10 cores. This AI 9 370 with 12.
