i still stay away from sandisk after their last data corrupting kerfuffle with these drives. moved on to crucial ssd's for all my production footage
not saying they're not fixed/updated, i personally just don't trust them yet with data i cannot lose

Don't buy these, overheat = burnout.

FWIW, I've had a 4TB one connected to my Thunderbolt hub and on pretty much 24/7 for a year and a half without issue. It runs a nightly backup of the files (raw photos) it contains to my NAS, so it's not exactly sitting there dormant either.

Just my two cents. I know every use case could be different.

IMPORTANT: these drives are notorious for failing. The unit is plastic and can't cool itself as the plastic and rubber insulates the drive. AVOID THESE. Instead by an empty external metal case with good cooling and buy a quality M2 drive to put inside the external case.

I've heard that and been meaning to do a deeper dive. Have you? Any suggestions on what to use? I know CD/DVD is out. I guess floppys work since the military uses them but ew on the number ill need. I suspect the answer is going to be spinning disc hdd or a thumb drive but havent done the research yet. Yay life keeping me busy -.-
