It's a noisy drive and slow in some use cases. But good for reading and storing data

Is the deal dead? I don't see an option to buy at this price… albeit I've never bought used on Amazon before so I might not be looking at the right place?

Thanks OP. I had an external drive backing up my critical files on my NAS and it died. I'll throw this in a case (re-shuck? lol) and have it run along.

Used/ SMR / AMZN
That is like triple trouble. This is nearly unusable in a NAS as many NAS maker will tell you. May be okay for write-once archival storage.

I wouldn't use barracuda drives in a NAS anyways

From the AI.."The Seagate Barracuda ST8000DM004 8TB hard drive uses Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) technology, not Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR). While it can be fine for some workloads, especially those with primarily sequential writes, SMR drives can exhibit performance degradation in certain scenarios like random writes or heavy data rewriting. "..

That being said, I have some how managed to own a few of these in external drives That I use for raw backup only, Not on line 24/7. Not a NAS drive for sure. I got a Xbox 8tb hd that did puke, but the Seagate utility got it back going, but.. Its only Xbox data anyway..

This drive is rated to be powered on 2400 hours a year. There are 8760 hours in a year. It is not a good choice for NAS, NVR, or similar workloads that will be running 24/7.

Goharddrive currently has a renewed Skyhawk 12TB for $112 that might be of interest for the NVR. https://ebay.us/m/udc1pz

I have 6 in mine (6 8tb + a 4tb) with anywhere from 2 years 53 days to 6 years and 78 days on them. Idk that I'm down for an amazon used one, but I surely would buy more and did pick up a 26tb expansion that most likely has a barracuda in it.
