I'm ready to buy this, but I'm a noob at this and have a couple of questions. I wonder if someone is willing to help.
First, this looks like it will handle our well, because it is rated for 240v. Is that right?
Second, we have a transfer switch installed to use a portable generator for backup if needed. Is that sufficient? We don't need instant UPS, so it seems like a manual transfer switch would be good enough. Is that right?

I purchased a Jackery Explorer 5000 for the purpose of running my well and it is up to the task, but there are limitations that you should be aware of with the Explorer 5000. I'll reference the websites where I found the information, but here is a summary of my experience using it to literally power my well for the last day. I have an F-150 Lightning and can run my entire home (including HVAC) and my mom's home next door for about 3 days, but adding the well in is too much for the onboard inverter. Thus I wanted to find an [easy] solution to remove the well from the equation. I hope this helps.
  1. The Explorer 5000 cannot provide power to the 240v outlets if the charging cord (110v) is plugged in or connected to power. For my testing I unplugged the Explorer 5000 and the well ran normally.
  2. 24 hours of operating the well for two houses used about 55% of the available battery pack.
  3. I expect connecting 800W of solar (4x 200W panels, two to each Low-PV port) would keep the unit "topped off" and allow the well to run entirely off-grid indefinitely.
  4. Connecting solar to the High-PV ports will NOT work with the Jackery Explorer 5000 alone. From my reading (link below) the Explorer 5000 will use the solar exclusively to charge the battery and will not pass any power through to power a connected load. Further after reaching 100% charge using the High-PV ports the Explorer 5000 moves into a 2-hour "rest" mode where no output is allowed from the battery at all. This renders the unit pointless UNLESS it's combined with the Jackery Smart Transfer Switch. When connected to an STS the unit can evidently charge from High-PV solar and continue to provide power to any connected load. I have not verified this as I do not have an STS.
