I've been browsing for a new printer and came across a pretty solid deal on a supertank inkjet. I used to have an Epson that lasted me a full year without needing ink — seriously, a dream.

...until my cats knocked over their water bowl and flooded it.

Why was their bowl on my desk, you ask? Because I'm a softie who wanted them to hang out with me while I work from home. That backfired.

Aww, man! I just ordered an HP over this one because the price was pretty close; now it's almost half! Thanks for posting.

Never go with HP. Go with just Epson or Canon

How much do official refills cost for this typically? Also how much are the "bootleg" refills (not the syringe based refill kits) if they are available for this model?

Not bad, average $215 price. Looks like it has gone as low as $170 a couple times this year.

Anybody have experience with these long term (at least 1-2 years)? Do you still need to remember to do a print or clean every week or so to keep the printhead from clogging?

In my experience every inkjet printer still ends up clogging unless you are using it regularly. But I've never had any experience with these megatank/ecotank printers and have always been intrigued.

Some other questions in case anyone with experience with these happens by:
Do these handle borderless printing okay?
Able to output a lot of copies without page feed/jams or other problems?
Is the printhead a replaceable part? Would be great if there were a cheap generic for that...

Get this, it's amazing. I got one from my school for free and fark I print all my lecture notes haven't even been able to use my ink bottles yet. The printing is so economical I cannot believe it. For this price I would buy it if I didn't have it already. Just my opinion on it.

I need to replace my 12-year-old Epson. I haven't used it much since just before COVID, so it sits idle for weeks. Now, it prints fuzzy on "high" quality setting. On "standard" setting, it prints fine except for weird rows of fuzziness. I assume it's due to it sitting idle most of the time for the last few years (even after cleaning the print head and aligning the nozzles multiple times). Anyone know if this Canon printer will suffer the same problems if left idle for weeks?

These clog way more than Epson. Epson also has dead simple maintenance boxes now on most EcoTanks.

This is an awesome printer and a fantastic deal. I have the G6000, so it's two model years older. I print a lot. Still at 75% ink levels.

The nice thing is if I go a week without printing and the jets get clogged, there is a cleaning option in the menu, a deep cleaning option, and a jet purge option, so it basically will unclog itself if you ever need to use it.

I agree, I have one. best inkjet printer I have ever used. Graphic quality isn't quite lazer quality, but close. And they sip the ink. I'm pretty sure the ink it came with is a lifetime supply!

They ALL do that, it's the nature of inkjet printers. This Canon has a cleaning option and a deep cleaning option (which I think heats up the jets before purging) so you can run that if it gets fuzzy or streaky.

Not with this specific model but I have an older/cheaper 3060 that has FANTASTIC photo quality and sips ink compared to cartridge-style printers.
