Just FYI, when you ask this a question, 95% of the time it will just pull up a website and not audibly respond with an answer.

man. even at this price im nervous about investing in google home devices until i see some sort of indication that they arent going to phase assistant out completely for gemini nonsense.

If this was even 2 years ago, I would be all over it. But Google has done a great job of making my existing one super frustrating to use

The Pixel tablet failed. I'd assume that once Apple releases the rumored smart home speaker with display then Google will likely follow suit with an updated smart speaker w/ display but with Gemini.

This is a great deal, thanks OP.

For those unaware, this is by far the lowest price point of entry for an official Google Thread border router.

And those hating on Gemini... Learn to embrace it, the chained commands and interpretation of natural language blows Google Assistant out of the water. This device already has Gemini if you're part of the Google Home public preview and have a nest aware subscription, but Gemini will be rolling out widely to everyone else by the end of the year and it can't come soon enough.

FYI, Google went with a budget shopping list for hardware, this thing is slow, like 15fps kinda slow, also it randomly reboot from time to time... so buyers be aware, even with 50% discount like this.

Lenovo put out some clones with similar screen sizes a few years back.

Any recent Chromebook can also receive assistant commands. They're just lacking the frontend of the hub.

But if you're looking for something that integrates with surveillance and you're already in the Nest ecosystem, it's not going to get cheaper.

Wouldn't the Chromebook have to be on all the time?

Did I miss something? I'm pretty sure assistant is dead. They already have or are planning on phasing it out.

Try adding for in store pickup at a store with it in stock. Showed $99 for me until I did this.
Thanks for the heads up. The price actually updated to $50 for both pickup and delivery.

seems like you're in the know. mind elaborating on your comment? what does it mean for your fellow earthlings and what use cases will most likely be covered? I've just snagged 2 of these and am starting to wonder if I actually need them lol
thx!

Google's biggest competitor is itself.

It showed me 99$ for Austin, TX.
But when I added it in the cart, it automatically applied 50% discount. I ended up picking 2 for 108$. I know this is sloww and borderline useless but as a photo frame it's pretty awesome.
Update: After 2hrs I got an email that my order has been canceled because it's not in stock.

It does drop to $50 when I select pickup but, no locations nearby. It's a 2 hr drive to closest available. 👎👎

I have a bunch around my house. Hubs, maxes, nests… they're just ok. When they work it's awesome. When you ask it to do something like turn off the lights and it starts playing some random ass song on YouTube I get so frustrated. I'm done investing in Google products after they kill everything off

I'm getting this for the sleep tracker for mom, she doesn't keep up wearing a watch.
