Amazon running Prime Day 30% off deal on "Like New" condition bringing the price down to $246.53 + tax. Was in the market for a pair of travel cans, and at that price point, it kinda nuked all other options.

In this case your point is matter, XM6 provide better noise cancelling and PX8 provide better sound quality and material.

I bought these earlier in the week, they're supposed to get here today.

Hopeful they arrive in decent condition and sound better than my semi-old B&O headphones. I'm no audio expert, but have owned or tried lots of sub $1k headphones over the years. Will post my thoughts if anyone is interested!

I originally was thinking about getting the new Sony XM6. However, after seeing this deal i skeptically pull the trigger. I have to say, I am happily surprised. It does look, feel and smell brand new. The sound is amazing better than the XM6, ANC isn't but definitely acceptable. Considering the difference in price $247 vs $448 for me it's a no brainer.

PX8 will have better hardware and premium look and feel, but I don't agree that the sound quality will be better.
The default tuning is pretty dark with emphasized bass and recessed upper mids and treble. So unless you like that veiled tuning or if the app allows more customization than it used to (no actual EQ), I would go with the Sony for default sound plus ability to EQ.
If I were to get a B&W then the PX7 s3 looks very very good, although at a much higher price point because it is new.

how does this compare to AKG N9 hybrid... asking specifically for audiophile-ish SQ?

This. I'm willing to overlook a bunch of things at $246. Above $300? Different story.

I've only messed with them for about 30 minutes now, but my initial impressions were not good.

First, Amazon sent a "Like New" model that had some kind of crust on the headphone cups, and several of the buttons are scratched. I gently wiped it clean with a barely damp washclash and a dab of soap. I'm debating on if it's worth returning to gamble on another pair. If anyone has experience dealing with Amazon support in this case, I'd appreciate tips, because last time I talked with them, the rep said they can't offer discounts or partial refunds—you either keep the item for the price you paid, or return it.

Anyway, back to the headphones. For context, I'm coming from a B&O H9 3rd gen (tried some newer, more expensive models, but didn't feel like the sound improvements justified the cost difference.) Again, I'm not an audiophile, just someone who sits and works on a computer all day listening to music and taking zoom calls.

As far as comfort, they have more clamp than my B&O (that practically just rest on my ears at this point), but the PX8 are very comfortable and I could see wearing these all day for work with no issues. The build quality is far nicer than my H9 as well.

But the most important bit, the sound... at first it was super strange, very deep bass, just muddy for my taste. I ended up downloading the B&W music app to see if I could tweak the bass. Like another commenter mentioned, the settings are basic, only treble/bass controls. But I think it's crucial to check the settings with a used unit—my PX8 was set at a 6db bass (the max!) when I connected them. Once I adjusted that to a more neutral setting, they were much better.

The soundstage is impressive, though it's an adjustment for me. There's more depth, but the sound feels further away. I've tried a handful of EQ settings, some folks mentioned -3.5 treble -3.5 bass is the most neutral in the PX8, and it felt like making this change made them more similar to my B&O. The problem is you have to crank up the volume more, so I've moved to flat 0/0, and I'm swapping between my old H9 and the PX8 and comparing.

At the moment, I'm torn between my preference, some songs I prefer in one or the other. It's not as simple as dance vs classical or other genres, there are just a handful of songs where the vocals sound more receded in the PX8. But, I've been using my H9s for 2+ years so I'm biased, and the initial bass setting threw me off a bit. The more I listen in the PX8 (I've been listening as I write this), the more I'm starting to appreciate the different sound signature.

All that being said, if I didn't have any hi-fi headphones, for $250 (if you're willing to risk getting a slightly used unit) this is a great deal.

One other consideration, for anyone who didn't already know, is these are not passive. So they need to be charged and on in order to use—in a few years, depending on your use, you'll need to try and replace the battery (some YT folks say this is doable.) It might not matter to some, but I don't like the idea of paying ~$1k for headphones that I might need to open up with in a 2-3 years—so I feel much better about spending $250 on these.

Let me know if y'all have any questions!

I had these for two years and don't recommend. The headband adhesive failed, noise cancellation not great, the fit is very tight. The sound is solid and slightly worse than XM5s. The build quality besides the headband is good. Keep in mind I used this only for traveling a few times a year and the adhesive still failed. The Bluetooth can also be finicky. I would recommend the XM6s used for about $50 more. However, very disappointed in the build quality of the XM6, everything else great.

What's wrong with the xm6?

If you bought it before September 2023, the unit would be in the earlier batches with the environment friendly glue problem. That why when I got mine I check the mfg date to make sure ( mine is in 2024)
