Just gonna say that the "20 mile" is kind of fake.
Radios can communicate via line of sight. A cheap FRS radio can communicate for 100 miles if one of them is high enough and there is nothing in the way. At the same time, on the open ocean, these wouldn't be able to communicate from more than 2 miles away due to the curvature of the earth.

Basically, ignore the mile rating. These almost certainly work that far away under normal circumstances and if one of your radios is up a mountain, any FRS radio will work that far.

Isn't the curvature of earth something like 8" height change per mile? Therefore it would require 16" above water to reach someone 2 miles away.

Anyone comment on quality? I have some older Moto's that take 4 AA and I'm done with funding that.

EDIT These? https://www.amazon.com/BAOFENG-UV...hdGY&psc=1

Not worth it IMO. With brands like Cobra,Midland, and Motorola you are paying for the name. If you go with some of the Chinese brands like Baofeng or Retevis you get similar quality and performance for half the price. At the end of the day, all these radios are made in China anyways.
