I have them on all my AMS units even when not using abrasive filaments. It will prolong the life of the funnels on the AMS. But if using Abrasive filaments like AMS, it's an absolute must or you will wear down the funnel/s pretty quickly. It's a quick print and it also makes it easier to load filament.

Thanks for the deal. I made a mistake and printed funnel savar with PLA. It didn't fit, after that printed with PETG, and fitment was perfect. I'm still new but learning something every day

Not only does it save your ams from black tape/abrasives, but also has the added benefit of being able to cut the filament if it runs out/snags/tangles on the spool. Even better, you can have a secondary spool to swap to so the printer just keeps printing like nothing went wrong.
