5900XT is the better deal but if you want the top chip on AM4 for everything but gaming this is it. It was the best gaming CPU (not value) on the platform before X3D appeared. As long as you aren't thermally constrained the single thread boost is 5050mhz.

I recommend a 360mm AIO cooler if possible. My Noctua air cooler wasn't up to snuff. The Thermalright Frozen Notte was $50 and is doing well.

A 5900XT is $60 cheaper and you only lose 100mhz off the default base/boost clocks.

This should be $230 if the 5900xt is $218.

$200 at Microcenter, one can try to price match at Best Buy via chat.

YMMV but you can always the chat version of HUACA

If it doesn't work just buy the 5900XT from Amazon for $220. I agree it is a better value even if the clocks are slightly lower.

Crazy to see this chip going for so low, even in the broadwell Era this level of multicore performance would've required a top of the line v4 Xeon 2P setup. IMO unless someone needs the PCIe lanes or memory these chips are insane deals and far more efficient than the LGA-2011/2066 AliExpress setups you see posted on forums.

Just picked up a 5900xt instead for $218. Didn't realize that the 5900xt had 16 cores like the 5950x and not 12 like the 5900x. Such confusing naming scheme.

I've had a 5600X for almost 5 years now, there are severe USB bugs that have not been fixed yet.
If you use a USB dongle, it will probably cut out a lot.
if you plug the USB in directly, it'll work fine.
this processor series is almost 5 years old and they have an old bug that they haven't fixed yet I wouldn't buy this.

Man I remember during covid in 2021 when these were $1,000+. The X3Ds weren't out yet and I was seriously considering one.

Chances are its riding on the edge of stability, you need to tweak the voltages in the bios.
Once I did this I haven't had any issues with USB or anything else.

I've had a 5900X for 4 years and have had zero issues....but I agree that $280 seems like a lot for an old CPU.

Normally I'm happy to build a new computer but this time I just want to extend the life of my current computer so I figured I'd just get the best CPU in my current socket. So I just upgraded from 5600X to this 5950X. Hopefully will give me another 3-5 years in my current setup. Added 32gb RAM too which bumped it to 64gb.
